2024 Volkswagen Tiguan World Premiere English Subtitles

The latest iteration of the Volkswagen Tiguan, the third-generation model, has recently made its debut in the European market and is scheduled to arrive in the United States next year, featuring the extended wheelbase variant of its platform.

In terms of exterior design, it retains its familiar look while incorporating subtle elements that draw inspiration from the ID.4 EV, particularly noticeable in the closed upper grille. Underneath, the Tiguan rests on the MQB Evo platform, offering a standard front-wheel-drive configuration with the option for all-wheel drive.

While European customers are being treated to a variety of new powertrain choices, details about what will be available in the United States remain undisclosed.

Among the offerings are two plug-in hybrid models, providing either 201 or 268 horsepower. These models are equipped with a 19.7-kilowatt-hour battery, offering an electric-only range of up to 62 miles. Charging has seen improvements, with the AC charger now supporting 11 kW and compatibility with up to 50 kW on DC fast chargers.

For those looking for mild-hybrid alternatives, there’s a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery and starter/generator, allowing for cylinder deactivation for increased efficiency.

Additionally, the third-generation Tiguan offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, with power outputs of either 201 or 262 horsepower. The turbodiesel options continue to be available, featuring a 2.0-liter version with power ratings of 148 or 190 horsepower.

Technological advancements include an enhanced adaptive chassis control system that collaborates seamlessly with electronic differential locks. The inclusion of two-valve shocks with an adapted control algorithm further refines the vehicle’s handling characteristics.

Inside the cabin, Volkswagen introduces a fresh digital instrument display layout and an updated infotainment system, adopting the design cues seen in the ID.4, ID.5, and ID.7 models. Drivers can select from different view modes, including Classic, Progressive, Navigation, and R-Line.

Safety features abound in the Tiguan, with offerings such as adaptive cruise control, hill start assist, park distance control, lane keep assist, lane change assist, and more.

While comprehensive technical specifications for the US version of the Tiguan are eagerly anticipated, this information is expected to be revealed closer to the vehicle’s US launch.
