2024 Mercedes E 300 e 4MATIC in Verde Silver

Unveiling a new iteration of the beloved Mercedes-Benz E-Class in April of this year was an exciting moment for automotive enthusiasts. Marking the 10th generation of this iconic vehicle, the W214-generation E-Class flaunted a three-box sedan silhouette, boasting larger dimensions that greatly enhanced its interior accommodation.

Among the noticeable improvements in the new model was the expansion of luggage capacity, now offering a generous 540 liters of space. Additionally, the wheelbase grew by 20 mm compared to its W213-generation predecessor, measuring an impressive 2,961 mm in total. The overall dimensions of the latest W214-generation E-Class are now 4,949 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,468 mm in height.

Recently, Mercedes-Benz treated the public with new images showcasing the W214 E-Class in various variants, including the E 220 d, E 300 de, E 400 e 4Matic, and E450 4Matic. These variants have already hit the European market during the summer season of the Northern Hemisphere.

The range of offerings includes two mild hybrids, namely the E 220 d and E 450 4Matic, as well as two plug-in hybrids, the E 300 de and E400 e 4Matic. Both powertrain types are represented by one diesel and one petrol variant.

The E 220 d is equipped with a 1,993 cc inline-four cylinder turbodiesel engine, capable of producing 197 horsepower at 3,600 rpm and 440 Nm of torque between 1,800 and 2,800 rpm. This model powers the rear wheels (while Europe also enjoys a 4Matic version) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds, achieving a top speed of 238 km/h.

On the other hand, the petrol mild-hybrid unit, showcased by the E 450 4Matic, packs a six-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 381 horsepower between 5,800 and 6,100 rpm, along with 500 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 5,000 rpm. The power is distributed to all four wheels, enabling the E 450 4Matic to reach 0-100 km/h in an impressive 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h.

The plug-in hybrid options consist of the E 300 de PHEV diesel and the E 400 e 4Matic petrol PHEV. The former produces 313 PS and 700 Nm of torque as part of its total system output, while the latter offers 381 PS and 650 Nm of torque. Both models incorporate a 129 PS/440 Nm electric drive motor, drawing power from a 25.4 kWh battery, of which 19.5 kWh is usable. The E 400 e 4Matic can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h.

The suspension system for the W214-generation E-Class features a four-arm multi-link setup at the front and a five-link layout at the rear. The mild-hybrid variants come with Agility Control steel-sprung suspension and adjustable damping as standard, providing a 15 mm lower ride height than the PHEVs.

Customers have the option to select air suspension, available in the Technology pack, which includes Airmatic with ADS+ continuously variable damping. Additionally, rear-axle steering is offered as an optional feature, providing up to 4.5 degrees of rear-wheel steering, effectively reducing the car’s turning circle by 90 cm.

Stepping inside the W214 E-Class, drivers and passengers are greeted by the impressive Superscreen infotainment display, occupying a prominent position in the cabin. The infotainment system boasts an integrated selfie and video camera atop the dashboard, accompanied by an entertainment suite featuring various third-party applications. One of the highlights of the interior is the Active Ambient Lighting, a feature that coordinates lighting sequences with the music played through the audio system, creating a captivating ambiance.

Safety and driver assistance are of utmost importance in the W214 E-Class. The vehicle comes equipped with essential features like Active Distance Assist, Attention Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Parking Package with a reverse camera, and Speed Limit Assist. Additionally, customers can opt for the Driving Assistance Plus package, which adds Active Steering Assist as a lane-keeping function. Notably, if lane markings become less visible and Active Steering Assist is no longer available, the system promptly alerts the driver by vibrating the steering wheel.

Excitingly, the W214-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class became available for purchase in Europe during the summer of 2023. Enthusiasts can expect the first batch of customer units to arrive in European showrooms in the following autumn.
