2024 Mercedes Benz GLE Class Revealed With New 400e PHEV Model

The new 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is finally here and it’s worth noting that there are no major changes to its exterior design. The most noticeable changes are seen at the front of the SUV and Coupe where the horizontal bar in the grille now has a segmented look with chrome squares, the corner intakes are accentuated with large chrome accents and the headlights have new elements inside while retaining the same size and shape as the outgoing model. The taillights have undergone a similar update.

On the inside, the biggest change is the new steering wheel that comes with touch sensors on the spokes which allows drivers to control the center touchscreen and digital instrument displays. The interior also features chrome trim on the air vents and an available Piano Black Flowing Lines trim which was previously exclusive to Maybach models. The GLE 580 model also comes with an Off-Road Engineering Package that includes an underride guard and an extra 1.2 inches of ground clearance.

The new GLE-Class also comes with advanced technology such as an off-road mode that displays gradients, roll angles, and steering angles, and a view of the front wheels on the center display. Additionally, there is a Trailer Route Planner for those who pull trailers which provides the best route to the destination based on the size of the trailer. The model also has new assists for reversing with a trailer.

The biggest news for this refresh is the addition of a plug-in hybrid trim level, the GLE 400e 4Matic, which pairs a 134-horsepower electric motor with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generating a combined output of 381 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. According to Mercedes, the PHEV can reach 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds and can run on electricity alone with the help of a 23.3 kWh battery. Although an official range estimate isn’t available yet, all new GLE models come with electrification, including a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class will go on sale later this year and pricing details will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
