As our globe grapples with a myriad of transportation issues, all eyes are fixated on the realm of urban mobility, as it increasingly tilts towards a paradigm of electrification and miniaturization. The notion of an electric nanocar – a diminutive, noiseless avatar of modern transportation, fits snugly within the context of daily commute on city streets, a labyrinthine maze often characterized by traffic congestion. Riding on the same wave, the Silence S04, a prototype presented by Exelentia, the exclusive Italian mobility importers of the Silence brand, stands as a futuristic representation of urban mobility. The prototype, revealed to much fanfare at Eicma 2021, drew significant interest from potential buyers and has now evolved into its final version, primed for large-scale production and ready to embark on its commercial journey.
Imagine, if you will, a world where the hustle and bustle of city life gets denser with every passing day. According to the 19th Isfort Report on Italian mobility, the first half of 2022 witnessed close to 100 million daily journeys. Interestingly, nearly 30% of these journeys were short distances (up to 2 km), with nearly half of them covering urban stretches (between 2 and 10 km). Overall, a whopping 77.6% of trips concluded within a 10 km radius.
Coming back to the Silence S04, its creation springs from a conscious decision by its Spanish manufacturer, Silence, to design a NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle), leveraging the expertise from the production of emission-free scooters. The S04, approved as a non-light quadricycle, boasts of compact dimensions, making it an excellent choice for city navigation, even in high-traffic zones, courtesy of its zero-emission mechanism. The aesthetic appeal of the S04 lies in its contemporary design, a sophisticated blend of angular lines and broad curves, encapsulating its strength and dynamism to conquer city traffic with grace and style. Furthermore, its large LED daytime running lights amplify visibility under diverse conditions, and the electrically adjustable rear-view mirrors make parking in constrained spaces a breeze.
Constructed with a robust tubular steel frame and an ABS and polypropylene body, the Silence S04 ensures torsional rigidity and lightness, assuring safety and precise handling. The braking system utilizes disc brakes on both the front and the rear. The rear axle is powered by two brushless electric motors, providing a peak power of 23.6 kW and a continuous torque of 200 Nm. It offers three selectable driving modes – Eco, City, and Sport, all with regenerative braking capabilities that recharge the batteries during the drive. The S04 can reach speeds of up to 85 km/h.
The Silence S04 houses two 11.2 kWh lithium-ion batteries, offering a range of 149 km and an energy consumption of 119 Wh/km. The easily removable batteries, fitted within an aluminum trolley structure, can be taken home or to the office for charging using a standard electrical socket. From a completely discharged state, each battery requires approximately 7 hours to fully charge. Alternatively, the vehicle comes with a charging cable that can be plugged into a Schuko socket.
The S04 comes equipped with a plethora of features including a Silence App Connected, a 7″ TFT display, smartphone holder, audio system with Bluetooth, keyless entry and ignition, central locking, electric mirrors, full LED lights, rear fog lights, and white metallic bodywork. The initial 500 units, available in White Metallic and Matte Gray colors, will roll out of the Silence factory in Barcelona in July and August 2023, all equipped with the Premium Pack trim which includes air conditioning, multifunction steering wheel, eco-leather interior trim, and mats with the S04 logo. From 2024, the S04 can also be ordered without the Premium Pack and with a new package that includes eco-leather seats.
The Silence S04 L7e nanocar can be ordered at a base price of 16,650.00 euros with the White Metallic bodywork. As an electric quadricycle, it is eligible for a state Ecobonus, allowing for a 30% or 40% invoice discount in the event of vehicle scrapping. The first 500 units, equipped with the Premium Pack, can be purchased at a list price of 18,165.00 euros, with a promotional price of 17,900.00 euros for orders placed by October 31, 2023. The Matt Gray shade is available at an additional cost of 655.00 euros. Eco-leather comfort seats can be requested at an additional price of 435.00 euros. All prices include VAT, excluding registration, road taxes, and delivery costs.
