Polestar 4 Revealed at Shanghai Auto Show

The Polestar 4, a recent addition to the expanding lineup of the popular electric automaker, is a compact crossover that slots between the Polestar 2 saloon and the larger 3 in terms of both size and price. With a stylish design that showcases key features from the Polestar Precept concept car, the Polestar 4 is a high-performance SUV that offers both single- and dual-motor layouts.

The long-range, dual-motor variant boasts an impressive 536 bhp and 506 pound-feet of torque, allowing it to reach 62 miles per hour in a mere 3.8 seconds, making it the fastest production car that the brand has ever produced. Although the Polestar 1 had more power, the Polestar 4 surpasses it in terms of acceleration, hitting 60 mph in less time. The long-range, single-motor variant, which powers the rear wheels, generates a respectable 268 bhp and 253 lb-ft of torque.

Polestar estimates that the long-range, single-motor variant will have a preliminary range target of over 300 miles based on the US EPA’s test procedure. The dual-motor version features a semi-active suspension, and customers can choose from a range of 20- to 22-inch wheel options wrapped in either Pirelli or Michelin rubber.

The sleek crossover boasts a low aerodynamic nose, retractable door handles, and frameless windows. Interestingly, it lacks a rear window glass, and instead has a standard glass roof that extends behind the heads of the rear-seat passengers. Measuring 4,839 millimetres (190.5 inches) in length, 2,139 mm (84.2 in) in width, and 1,544 mm (60.8 in) in height, the Polestar 4 is as big as the Audi Q7 between the rubber while being shorter overall, with a 2,999-mm (118.1-in) wheelbase.

Safety is a top priority for the Polestar 4, which comes equipped with nine airbags, 12 cameras, one radar system, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Drivers receive information from a 10.2-inch display ahead of the steering column, but a 14.7-inch head-up display is available to reduce distractions. It also features a unique “snow mode” that switches the HUD’s text color from white to yellow.

Running on Android Automotive OS, the crossover’s 15.4-inch landscape-oriented infotainment display features built-in Android features like Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play store, as well as Apple CarPlay. Customers can also upgrade to a 12-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, while the Nappa Pack provides two additional speakers in each front headrest for a total of 16.

Polestar offers several upgrade packs for the sleek crossover, including the Plus Pack, which focuses on improving the model’s tech and comfort kit, and the Plus Pro Pack, which adds color-coded body bits, an electrochromic glass roof, and extra interior illumination.
