Nissan Safari Rally Z Tribute 2023 SEMA Show Car Revealed

Nissan is all set to pay tribute to its rich motorsports history at the 2023 SEMA show, held from October 31 to November 3 at the Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall. In a nod to decades of rallying triumphs, the Japanese automaker will showcase two exceptional vehicles: the Safari Rally Z Tribute1, crafted by Tommy Pike Customs, and an authentic replica of the Datsun 240Z Safari rally car.

The Safari Rally Z Tribute, painstakingly crafted by the skilled hands at Tommy Pike Customs, draws inspiration from the victorious 1971 East African Safari Rally car. Painted in a striking dark red with a black hood, this unique creation features additional lighting fixtures on the lower bumper, hood, and the A-pillar base. It also boasts a small tubular guard and a skid plate attached to the front.

Inside the Safari Rally Z Tribute, you’ll find Recaro Pole Position seats and a bar designed for mounting a four-point harness, adding a touch of rally-ready authenticity. The passenger-side dashboard proudly displays a map of the East African Safari Rally course, along with vintage timing equipment.

This remarkable Z variant rides on a custom KW Safari suspension system, elevating the ride height by a substantial 2.0 inches. The suspension offers adjustability in various components, including the upper control arms, outer tie rod ends, front and rear end-links, rear mid-links, and rear traction arms, allowing for precise tuning to tackle different terrains. The prototype Nismo Safari wheels, measuring 17 inches in diameter and 7.5 inches in width, are wrapped in robust Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003 tires.

Under the hood, the car benefits from an AMS tune, which takes the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine beyond the 400 horsepower mark, although Nissan has not specified the exact figures compared to the stock model. Furthermore, a plethora of Nismo enhancements have been incorporated, including a twin-disc clutch, flywheel, heat exchanger, coolant expansion tank, cold-air intake, carbon-fiber engine cover, and a cat-back exhaust system.

In addition to the new Safari Rally Z Tribute, a faithful reproduction of the original Datsun 240Z from the East African Safari Rally graces the SEMA stage. This remarkable vehicle, on loan from a dedicated collector who meticulously built it in 2013, even made a recent appearance in a Nissan commercial.

Nissan’s Z lineup was expanded in July with the introduction of the Nismo model, which cranks up the power of the twin-turbo V6 engine to a robust 420 hp. The nine-speed automatic transmission receives revised tuning for improved performance compared to the standard model. Notable upgrades to the suspension include new sway bars, retuned dampers, and stiffer springs. With a starting price of $66,085, including the $1,095 destination fee, the Nismo model offers a thrilling option for Z enthusiasts.

Nissan’s commitment to its motorsports heritage is evident in the Safari Rally Z Tribute and the Datsun 240Z replica on display at SEMA. As the automaker continues to evolve its Z lineup, enthusiasts can look forward to a thrilling future for this iconic sports car.
