Nio EL6 Electric SUV Revealed In Europe

In a recent development, the second-generation Nio ES6, known as the EL6 due to a legal dispute with Audi, has made its entry into various European markets after its successful launch in China. The Nio EL6, touted as an intelligent electric all-round SUV, is now available in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. Enthusiastic customers in these countries can opt to either purchase the vehicle outright or choose a subscription program that allows them to pay a monthly fee.

The Nio EL6 maintains a striking resemblance to its predecessor, as Nio has adopted an evolutionary approach to its design. This mid-size electric SUV exhibits a similar footprint to the previous model, with only slight variations in width and height.

To delve into the specifics, the Nio EL6 measures 191.1 inches (4,854 millimeters) in length, 78.5 inches (1,995 mm) in width, and 67 inches (1,703 mm) in height, with a wheelbase spanning 114.7 inches (2,915 mm). Noteworthy aesthetic updates include newly integrated round headlights, stacked atop one another on each side, slim taillights that now connect via a light bar, revamped bumpers, and the inclusion of LiDAR and front-view cameras on the vehicle’s roof.

Stepping inside the Nio EL6, we find a double-layer dashboard layout that has been retained from the previous model. However, the dash itself has become slimmer, concealing air vents while incorporating new central infotainment and driver displays. The infotainment system operates on Nio’s latest Banyan OS.

Among the interior enhancements are a fresh steering wheel design, as well as revamped front seats offering 20-way adjustment for the driver and 22-way adjustment for the front passenger. The vehicle boasts a spacious, openable sunroof, which Nio claims is the largest in its segment, covering an area of nearly one square meter (10.7 square feet).

The enhanced passenger Lounge Seat introduces a variety of comfort features, such as a zero-gravity position, reclining mode, adjustable leg rest, ventilation, an eight-point massage system, and three-zone heating for the seat cushion, backrest, and leg rests. Additionally, the seat has the ability to rotate 160 degrees.

The cabin also showcases new materials, including sustainable rattan trim on the dashboard and tailor-made acoustic fabric on the speakers.

When it comes to practicality, the Nio EL6 boasts flexible storage space, with its three-layer trunk offering a maximum volume of 23.6 cubic feet (668 liters). Furthermore, the rear seats can be folded down in a 40/20/40 layout, increasing the storage capacity to an impressive 50.5 cubic feet (1,430 liters).

Underneath its familiar exterior, the Nio EL6 unveils a completely new platform. Building upon the Chinese-spec Nio ES6, the EL6 is based on Nio’s latest NT 2.0 platform and comes equipped with a dual-motor AWD electric powertrain as standard.

This powertrain comprises a front induction motor generating 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts) and a rear permanent magnet motor producing 210 kilowatts (282 horsepower), resulting in a combined power output of 360 kilowatts (483 horsepower) and a total torque of 516 pound-feet (700 Newton-meters).

These robust specifications enable the Nio EL6 to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 kph) in a mere 4.5 seconds. The vehicle is equipped with a standard 75-kilowatt-hour battery pack, with an optional 100-kilowatt-hour battery available for those seeking extended range. With

the latter option, the Nio EL6 achieves a WLTP range of up to 328 miles (529 kilometers).

On the technological front, the EL6 comes equipped with Nio Aquila Super Sensing, which incorporates 33 high-performance sensing units, and Nio Adam Super Computing, powered by four Nvidia Drive Orin X chips, providing an impressive computing power of 1,016 TOPS.

For prospective buyers in Germany, the Nio EL6 is available at a starting price of $71,700 (65,500 euros) for the 75-kWh model and $81,500 (74,500 euros) for the 100-kWh variant.
