New 2023 Abarth 500e Electric In Black

Introducing the first-ever electric vehicle donning the iconic scorpion emblem, the 2023 Abarth 500e by Fiat. This eye-catching creation sports an aggressive black color that’s guaranteed to turn heads. Indeed, it boasts a little extra oomph, but not quite enough to label it a full-fledged hot hatch.

Positioned alongside the recently revamped gasoline-fueled Abarth 500, both cars offer comparable performance levels. The novel electric variant enjoys a boost of 38 horsepower and 11 pound-feet of torque compared to the standard large-battery 500e. With a cumulative 155 hp and 162 pound-feet of torque, the Abarth 500e zips from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 7 seconds—roughly 2 seconds faster than the standard 117 hp model.

It’s worth mentioning that Fiat has a penchant for unveiling extra-special Abarth 500 versions with heightened power and more radical configurations. Hence, it wouldn’t be shocking to see a similar approach with the new electric model. The automaker claims the vehicle is “more Abarth than ever,” implying that they’ve endeavored to recreate the quintessential Abarth experience within an electric powertrain.

Fiat believes they’ve captured the essence of the Abarth by incorporating artificial gasoline engine sounds inside the cabin to amplify the sensation of speed. Standard on the launch edition and optional for other trims, this sound generator can be disabled if desired. However, if seamlessly integrated and unobtrusive, it may enhance the driving experience for some motorists.

The Abarth 500e is energized by a 42 kWh battery pack, identical to the Fiat 500e. It charges at a peak rate of 85 kW, allowing 80% battery replenishment in just 35 minutes. A swift 5-minute charge can add an extra 25 miles (40 km) to the vehicle’s range. Although the manufacturer has yet to disclose the Abarth 500e’s exact range, it’s expected to be slightly less than the Fiat 500e due to the increased power and aggressive tires.
