The Mercedes-AMG stable has recently pulled the wraps off its revamped mid-sized sport utility vehicle (SUV) range, where the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 finds itself nestled beneath the ferocious GLE 63 S, subject of a distinct review. The 2024 version showcases a plethora of alterations, spanning from aesthetic refinements to a more robust powertrain. The preceding GLE 53 iteration, a respectable performance SUV, fell short when pitted against formidable competitors like the Audi SQ7 and the BMW X5 M60i. Mercedes-AMG aspires that this latest iteration will enable it to seize the limelight by serving as a bridge between the conventional GLEs and the sizzling-hot AMGs.
With the incorporation of enhanced features, state-of-the-art equipment, and powertrain advancements, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 SUV is likely to witness a marginal uptick in price. A starting figure of approximately $79,000 is projected.
Under the hood, the rejuvenated Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 powerplant incorporates a 48-volt Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), delivering 21 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque to bolster the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six. Collectively, they generate an unaltered 429 hp; however, modified engine software and an upsized turbocharger elevate torque from 384 lb-ft to 413 lb-ft, accessible across a generous spectrum of 2,200 to 5,800 rpm. In essence, this translates to a more robust power curve. Consequently, despite the constant 429 hp, a greater proportion of power is accessible across an extended rev range, yielding better acceleration. The 2024 model retains the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G nine-speed automatic transmission, with power being transmitted to all wheels via Mercedes’ AMG Performance 4Matic+ AWD system, which boasts fully adjustable torque distribution. Towing capacity is anticipated to hold steady at an impressive 7,700 lbs. Moreover, trailering is now more manageable courtesy of optional Trailer Maneuvering Assist and Trailer Steering Assist driver-assistance features, in addition to a trailer route planner.
