2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger Interior Cabin

Introducing the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger – a groundbreaking electric truck that’s set to revolutionize the way we drive. This impressive vehicle comes equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, but it’s unlike any traditional combustion engine you’ve ever seen. Instead of directly powering the wheels, this engine serves as an on-board generator, ensuring you never have to fret about running out of power during your journey.

First things first, let’s clarify that the Ramcharger isn’t your run-of-the-mill plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. The 3.6-liter engine doesn’t have a direct mechanical connection to the wheels. Its sole purpose is to charge the on-board generator, which, in turn, replenishes the hefty 95-kilowatt-hour battery. Ram’s aim with this setup is to provide an astounding total range of approximately 690 miles, combining the battery’s electric power with a substantial 27-gallon fuel tank that keeps the V6 engine humming.

But what truly sets this truck apart are its two electric drive modules (EDMs). Upfront, you’ve got a robust 335-horsepower (250-kilowatt) system, while the rear packs a punch with 319 hp (238 kW). What’s noteworthy is the Ram’s ability to disconnect its front wheels on the fly, allowing them to spin freely, thus enhancing efficiency. Additionally, the rear EDM comes equipped with an electronic-locking differential, ensuring optimal control in various situations.

Now, let’s delve into the performance numbers. The Ramcharger boasts a staggering 663 horsepower and a hefty 615 pound-feet of torque. This potent power translates into a rapid acceleration from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds, with the battery contributing approximately 145 miles of electric-only range. It’s not just about speed, though – the Ramcharger can handle some serious towing, with a capacity of 14,000 pounds, and it can haul a payload of up to 2,626 pounds. As for the exact curb weight, Ram is keeping that information under wraps for now.

The power journey begins with the specially designed 3.6-liter V6, which generates a solid 174 horsepower (130 kW) for the on-board generator. The driver has the flexibility to use this energy either to recharge the battery when it’s running low or to conserve it for later. Moreover, the vehicle can simultaneously harness the generator and battery power for maximum output, all while intelligent software and drive modes ensure smooth operation, including a specialized towing mode.

Underpinning the Ramcharger is Stellantis’ STLA Frame platform, with the battery positioned snugly between the frame rails towards the front of the vehicle. The fuel tank is strategically located behind the battery but ahead of the rear EDM. Adding to its versatility, the truck features a four-corner air suspension system with five selectable modes.

When it comes to charging, the Ramcharger means business. The liquid-cooled battery lies flat beneath the truck’s floor and supports rapid charging at 400 volts, with speeds of up to 145 kilowatts. In just 10 minutes, you can gain an additional 50 miles of range. Plus, the truck is equipped with ports for Level 1, Level 2, and DC fast charging, providing flexibility for various charging options.

Now, let’s talk about the truck’s design. The Ramcharger seamlessly combines elements from the sleek 2025 1500 and the 1500 REV. It features a distinctive forward-leaning grille and an eye-catching RAM badge that pulsates to indicate its charge status. Upfront, you’ll notice a body-color front fascia, and at the rear, it boasts EV-specific taillights.

As for pricing, Ram has yet to reveal those details. We’ll have to wait a bit longer for that information as we approach the expected on-sale date towards the end of 2024. Stay tuned for more electrifying updates on this remarkable electric truck!
