The 2024 Nissan Pathfinder destined for the American market was unveiled approximately one month ago, sporting a familiar 3.5-liter V6 engine that has seen continued use. However, its counterpart intended for the Chinese market has undergone a significant transformation. Indeed, for the 2024 model year, the Pathfinder has been given a substantial makeover tailored to the preferences of Chinese consumers, and it is now poised for release in the People’s Republic.
Handling the production of this revamped Pathfinder in China is the Dongfeng Nissan joint venture. A cursory glance at this Chinese variant reveals notable deviations from its American sibling. Images released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) showcase a more commanding front fascia marked by a generously proportioned grille and gracefully sloped headlights. The exterior aesthetics closely mirror those of the Pathfinder concept introduced earlier this year, with the primary distinction being the absence of LED strips that once bridged the gap between the headlights and taillights.
Further insights gleaned from MIIT data provide dimensions for the Chinese Pathfinder, measuring in at 202 inches in length, 78 inches in width, and standing at a height of 69.6 inches. This grants it an additional 4.3 inches in length compared to its American counterpart, a noteworthy distinction. Notably, the interior layout features three rows of seating. It remains unclear at this juncture whether the Chinese Pathfinder shares the same underpinnings as its American counterpart, which is based on the D Platform. However, prevailing reports suggest that the more contemporary CMF-CD architecture may not have been employed.
As previously alluded to, a pivotal divergence between the American and Chinese iterations of the Pathfinder resides beneath the hood. The model slated for production by the Dongfeng Nissan joint venture boasts a 2.0-liter turbocharged powerplant that churns out a respectable 248 horsepower. This four-cylinder engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, directing power to all four wheels, as indicated in prior reports. The rationale behind this smaller engine choice stems from China’s tax regimen, which imposes higher levies on engines with larger displacements.
