2024 Mercedes eSprinter Electric Van Debuts With Nearly 250 Miles Of WLTP Range

After five years of being available in Europe, the Mercedes-Benz Vans eSprinter electric van is now available in North America. In order to rival with the Ford E-Transit, the most recent model of the eSprinter will be introduced in the United States and Canada in the second half of 2023. The most recent eSprinter may have a similar look to its predecessor, but it is based on a brand-new “Electric Versatility Platform” that was developed with a €350 million investment.

The new eSprinter will be available in two different versions, one with 134 horsepower and the other with 201 horsepower, and is propelled by an electric motor located at the back. It has a maximum torque of 295 pound-feet and weighs about 286 pounds.

Mercedes plans to offer the eSprinter with the largest battery for the North American market, which has a usable capacity of 113 kWh and uses lithium/iron phosphate cell chemistry. Furthermore, it features active thermal management, which does away with the need for nickel and cobalt. The range for the US-spec model has not yet been revealed, but according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure, the European version can travel up to 248.5 miles on a single charge. The battery could last up to 311 miles on the WLTP city cycle.

Mercedes conducted a range test with a near-production prototype in Germany in October 2022, and the updated eSprinter was able to go 295 miles on a single charge with an additional 12 miles of energy left over. The battery requires 42 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent and may be charged at a maximum power of 115 kilowatts. The onboard charger, on the other hand, has a maximum power of 9.6 kilowatts.

The MBUX infotainment system can be found inside the eSprinter for the first time on a commercial vehicle. The driver can utilize the system to get to their location with the appropriate energy level and it also contains real-time range estimation depending on traffic and topography. The maximum load capacity and allowed gross vehicle weight of the eSprinter are 488 cubic feet and 9,369 pounds, respectively.

The eSprinter will be produced in Ludwigsfelde, Düsseldorf, and Charleston, Germany, and sold in around 60 markets, with Europe following North America near the end of 2023.
