Volkswagen ID. X Performance Concept Revealed With 550 Horsepower

Volkswagen’s forthcoming foray into the realm of electrification heralds a diverse array of performance-oriented electric vehicles (EVs). Recently, the ID. GTI concept made its debut in Munich, promising an exciting future for VW’s electric performance lineup. Moreover, Volkswagen aficionados can look forward to the ID. Buzz and ID.3 models receiving performance enhancements, thanks to VW’s freshly minted GTX emblem.

However, the electrification narrative takes an even more exhilarating twist with Volkswagen’s unwavering commitment to performance, epitomized by the introduction of the meticulously crafted ID.X Performance concept. Derived from the ID.7 sedan, this audacious creation stands in stark contrast to its conventional counterpart, boasting a design that captivates the senses.

The front fascia undergoes a radical transformation, characterized by the prominence of a commanding black grille, nestled at the base of the bumper. Flanking this central feature are symmetrically positioned vents, adding both form and function to the ensemble. A carbon fiber diffuser and a sporty, GTI-inspired red trim envelop the vehicle, creating an arresting visual spectacle. The wheel wells are encased in robust black plastic, housing a set of bespoke 20-inch sport alloys shod with high-performance racing rubber.

The rear aspect of the ID.X Performance presents an equally arresting spectacle, featuring a substantial rear spoiler adorning the trunk lid. Below, a generous carbon fiber diffuser commands attention, mirroring the bold red accents that adorn the car’s anterior and lateral profiles. Significantly, the entire vehicle rides 2.4 inches (60 millimeters) lower than its conventional counterpart, the ID.7, resulting in a visually and aerodynamically enhanced stance.

When it comes to power and performance, the ID.X concept leverages the versatile MEB architecture that serves as the backbone for a multitude of contemporary VW EVs. Equipped with two electric motors, this remarkable creation boasts an impressive total output of 550 horsepower. Furthermore, in keeping with the demands of modern electric mobility, the ID.X Performance concept features a DC fast charging capacity of 200 kilowatts, ensuring minimal downtime during recharging.

It is important to note that while the ID.X Performance concept holds undeniable promise, there is no official confirmation regarding its eventual production. Nevertheless, Volkswagen has tantalizingly teased the prospect of an even more potent ID.7 GTX, promising an array of aggressive accents, improved aerodynamics, and, one can hope, a substantial increase in power.

In the meantime, enthusiasts and curious onlookers can catch a glimpse of the ID.X Performance concept at the international ID. Treffen show, currently underway in Locarno, Switzerland, and set to continue until September 9. This avant-garde exhibition promises to offer a firsthand encounter with the future of Volkswagen’s electrifying performance aspirations.
