BMW is getting ready to introduce a hotter version of its M2, and it goes by the name M2 CS. Recent sightings of this disguised coupe cruising on public roads have set the hearts of car enthusiasts racing with anticipation. This next-level M2 is shrouded in secrecy, hidden under a disguise that conceals its bodywork and potential design enhancements.
What immediately catches your eye is the M2 CS’s lower stance and wider wheels, clear signals of its sporting intentions. However, peeling back the layers of camouflage to discern further styling tweaks proves to be a bit of a challenge. While the front-end styling seems mostly consistent with its regular counterpart, a more aggressive front lip spoiler hints at a higher level of performance. There’s speculation that a hidden integrated rear spoiler may be lurking beneath the camouflage, adding an extra dose of aerodynamic prowess.
The interior of this automotive puzzle remains concealed, but it’s unlikely that BMW will make drastic changes. The base M2 already features the sleek Curved Display, showcasing the latest iDrive software, and the CS version is expected to follow suit. Spy shots offer a tantalizing glimpse of the top of the screen, suggesting a familiar tech setup.
Beneath the hood, the M2 CS is set to harness the power of BMW’s S58 engine. There’s talk that this twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine will churn out no less than 500 horsepower, potentially surpassing even the mighty M3. This is a substantial power boost over the standard M2, which boasts a respectable 453 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque.
While the regular M2 gives enthusiasts the option of a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission, the M2 CS is expected to lean towards the latter. This choice is aimed at maximizing performance, as the automatic-equipped M2 already outpaces its manual counterpart, sprinting from zero to 60 miles per hour in a quick 3.9 seconds, compared to the manual’s 4.1 seconds.
With the added horsepower of the CS variant, it’s safe to expect that impressive sprint time to drop even further. The M2’s M Driver’s Package currently grants it a top speed of 177 mph, but this figure could rise with the new CS iteration. Weight reduction is also part of the plan, as BMW intends to incorporate more carbon fiber components to enhance overall performance.
The exact date for the M2 CS’s unveiling remains uncertain, but excitement is building for a potential debut in 2024, possibly in the latter half of the year, with the vehicle hitting the market as a 2025 model. As is customary with BMW’s CS models, production quantities are likely to be limited and come with a premium price tag. Just for reference, the 2023 M2 starts at $63,195.
