Toyota NEO Steer Yoke Revealed on Electric Toyota Land Cruiser

Unveiled at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, Toyota’s innovative ‘Neo Steer’ technology is a novel steering yoke that integrates accelerator and brake functions, thus eliminating the conventional pedal system. Inspired by motorcycle handlebars, the Neo Steer concept is part of a new cockpit design that allows for a roomy, pedal-free floor space, creating a liberating driving position and facilitating smoother vehicle entry and exit. The unconventional design of the steering wheel also affords a wider field of vision for the driver.

Moreover, the Neo Steer technology is notably inclusive, catering to individuals with lower limb impairments by enabling hand-operated driving. This innovative steering mechanism is set to debut in the U.S.-bound 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser showcased at the Japan Mobility Show, significantly deviating from its traditional LC 250 model by replacing the standard round steering wheel with the Neo Steer yoke.

The Neo Steer’s integration of acceleration and braking controls within the steering wheel not only modernizes the vehicle’s cockpit but also takes a step towards more accessible and ergonomic vehicle operation. Through the Neo Steer, Toyota demonstrates its continuous commitment to inclusivity and innovation in the automotive industry.
