Subaru unveils Crosstrek Boost Gear concept at Tokyo Auto Salon 2023

Subaru has unveiled the Crosstrek Boost concept at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon, which hints at what we might expect with the 2024 Wilderness in the USA.

It is an exciting time for Japanese car fans at the moment. That is because the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon is in full swing. And with it, there are plenty of interesting releases on show from various Japanese manufacturers. Toyota has rocked up with plenty of interesting rally concepts. Honda have also come out in full force with a great concept, that of their Honda Civic Type R racer for the 2024 Super GT season. Another manufacturer that is in full force at the show is Subaru.

The off-roading legends that are Subaru have rocked up with a wide array of cars. Not only have they brought their Subaru BRZ GT300 from 2022 on display, but there are plenty of new releases on offer too. A special Impreza prototype with STI parts is one car on show at the event. As is a Levorg STI Sport prototype as well. But something that really caught our eye is the Crosstrek Boost Gear concept. While there isn’t a huge amount of information yet on this concept, there is enough to get our attention. It’s one of Subaru’s most intriguing display items at the show.

The concept itself is actually based upon the new, next-generation 2024 Crosstrek. This is a car that made its global debut at the end of 2022 in December, so we know enough about that car. The 2024 model doesn’t offer any radical design changes over the previous edition, and it sports a 2.0-liter engine with e-Boxer hybrid technology in Japan. In America, it will most likely have the 2.0-liter Boxer engine as well as the 2.5-liter Boxer engine too. The concept most likely has the 2.0-liter engine inside it.

Subaru has given very little away so far on this concept. What they have said though is that it is coming “scattered with features which excite an adventurous mind”. What that is implying is that this is an adventure focused edition of the Crosstrek. It certainly looks that way, with the display area it is in featuring a mud trail style diorama that the car is sitting on. Not only that, but the overall appearance of the car actually gives us a few clues as to what we might see soon in the United States.
