The esteemed division of Toyota remains largely tight-lipped on the specifics of the vehicle, however, speculation is rife that it could well be a Yaris Cross donning a bespoke suit. Now, this might instigate a smidge of confusion, given that the petite UX already holds the title of Lexus’ compact crossover, and yet the interpretation of the Yaris Cross through the luxury lens of Lexus would undoubtedly be a notch smaller.
The automobile world was caught off guard when Lexus covertly rolled out a pair of intriguing teaser snapshots, anticipating the grand reveal of its new model on June 5 in a dedicated ceremony tucked within Milan’s vibrant cityscape, Italy. While the premium arm of Toyota continues to maintain a shroud of mystery around the vehicle, rumour has it that we could be looking at a Yaris Cross donned in sleek formal wear. This could seem a touch perplexing since the UX is already established as a compact crossover, but an adaptation of the Yaris Cross, envisioned through the luxe ethos of Lexus, would presumably be of an even more compact stature.
Embracing the shared TNGA-B platform of the Yaris supermini, it’s anticipated that the forthcoming Lexus LBX will reflect its conventional counterpart in technical specifications. As a result, a hybrid variant might surface, an all-wheel-drive edition housing a tri-cylinder, 1.5-liter petrol engine in collaboration with an electric motor, potentially harnessing a total power output of 114 horsepower. The Toyota-branded variant boasts an 0 to 62 mph sprint in 11.8 seconds. Alternatively, a non-hybrid, front-wheel-drive model may also materialize, with the 1.5-liter engine transferring a respectable 123 hp to the front wheels, paired with a choice between a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT.
