Porsche Vision 357 Speedster Walkaround

Porsche, the famous sports car maker, recently marked the 30th anniversary of the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed with the introduction of the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster. This concept car complements the closed Porsche Vision 357 and kickstarts the brand’s anniversary celebrations.

While the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster pays tribute to the classic 356 design, it’s built on the technology of the 718 GT4 e-Performance model. At the event on the Duke of Richmond’s estate in West Sussex, Porsche showcased over 15 new and classic models. The spotlight shone on the 356 No. 1 Roadster, Porsche’s first-ever sports car, and six Le Mans winners thrilled motorsport enthusiasts.

Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche, highlighted the significance of the Porsche Vision 357, saying, “The Porsche Vision 357 pays homage to the original Porsche model line, Ferry Porsche’s dream sports car. Just as the 356 has become iconic as both a convertible and a coupé in the brand’s memory, the same philosophy applies to this concept car: there can only be two.” Mauer added, “The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster embodies the essence of the brand, blending driving pleasure and dynamics with an extremely minimalistic form, much like the recently unveiled Mission X, proving that the unmistakable Porsche DNA shines through, even with fresh design elements.”

Underneath its sleek exterior, the Vision 357 Speedster utilizes technology from the Porsche 718 GT4 e-performance model, including electric motors and battery tech from the Mission R and a chassis from the 718 GT4 Clubsport. After its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, it will be on display at the upcoming Rennsport Reunion event in the United States in late September.

The concept car exhibits classic speedster traits, with a low, truncated windshield emphasizing its monolithic body. A tonneau cover along the right side adds a touch of elegance, and the driver’s headrest appears to float thanks to a technical carbon roll-over element. The rear houses the charge port door and the anchor for the classic speedster top.

The two-tone design, featuring Marble Grey and Grivelo Grey Metallic, takes inspiration from historical motorsport influences. The darker Metallic hue is seen on the front fenders and wings, providing protection against flying rocks during races. Grivelo Grey Metallic is also applied to the front wheels, with Miami Blue accents offering a fresh contrast.

The anniversary logo prominently displays the numbers “75,” representing the milestone, along with the years “1948” and “2023,” adorned in Grivelo Grey Metallic and Miami Blue. Uniquely designed comic-style unicorns and the “Speedster” logo add artistic touches. Traditional exterior mirrors have been replaced with cameras, featuring an optimized aerodynamic shape reminiscent of wings.

Several other design elements are shared with the Vision 357’s sister concept car. The front boasts a round four-point light signet, reminiscent of the iconic Porsche 356, while the rear lights are positioned behind a patterned array of points milled into the body. The vertical grille pattern at the rear is another nod to the initial Porsche model line, seamlessly integrating the third brake light.

The Vision 357 Speedster’s wide track enhances driving stability and pays homage to legendary Porsche wheels of the past. Equipped with 20-inch magnesium wheels and carbon fiber hubcaps, it nods to the 356 A and 356 B models with their large 205-millimeter bolt circle.

The car’s interior is minimalistic and designed with the driver in mind, featuring a low seating position and a Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) seat shell integrated into the monocoque.
