NEW 2024 Renault Clio Esprit Alpine E TECH Full Hybrid 145

Four years ago, Renault introduced the fifth-generation Clio, a popular supermini in a competitive segment that includes rivals like the Volkswagen Polo, Skoda Fabia, and SEAT Ibiza trio. Now, Renault is unveiling a significant mid-cycle refresh for the Clio to maintain its competitiveness. The update brings a completely redesigned front end with sleeker headlights and a distinctive checkerboard motif on the expansive grille.

When it comes to powertrain options, the Clio offers several choices. The lineup starts with a 1.0-liter naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine that produces 65 horsepower and 70 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. Next up is a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder variant that delivers 90 horsepower and 118 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The flagship powertrain for the Clio is the Clio E-Tech Full Hybrid 145. It combines a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with twin electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack with a 1.2-kWh capacity. The hybrid system generates a combined output of 145 horsepower and features a clutchless gearbox with two speeds for EV mode and four speeds when the combustion engine is in use.

Renault also offers a revised Clio variant with a compressed natural gas-powered three-cylinder turbo engine. This engine has a range of over 621 miles and produces 125 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm. Compared to the gasoline-only version, it emits eight percent less CO2.

Surprisingly, diesel remains an option for the 2024 Clio. The Blue dCi 100 unit is equipped with a familiar 1.5-liter engine that delivers 100 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

The refreshed Clio features a redesigned bumper with daytime running lights shaped like half of an upright rhombus, paying homage to the Renault logo. Clear taillights are making a comeback, and the diffuser comes in six different designs, depending on the trim level and hybrid status. The Esprit Alpine, a new flagship trim, replaces the RS Line.

Customers can choose from five wheel designs, with sizes of up to 17 inches, all featuring the latest brushed aluminum corporate logo. The Esprit Alpine or Techno trim options add a shark fin antenna. The paint selection includes Arctic White, Platinum Gray, Black Pearl Black, Iron Blue, Decir Red, Valencia Orange, and the new tri-coat Rafal Gray.

While the interior remains mostly unchanged, Renault has incorporated new sustainable materials throughout the cabin. In an effort to prioritize sustainability, leather upholstery is no longer an option for the 2024 Clio. Instead, the seats are covered in TEP, a material derived from organic and polyester fibers. The Esprit Alpine trim offers sportier front seats with improved lateral support.

On the technology front, the Clio comes with a digital instrument cluster available in 7- and 10-inch sizes, and a touchscreen display in 7- or 9.3-inch configurations. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as built-in navigation, a 360-degree camera, and a suite of 20 driver assistance systems. Key features include adaptive cruise control with stop & go functionality and Level 2 partially automated driving capabilities.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the Clio will no longer directly compete with the Ford Fiesta, as Ford has decided to discontinue its B-segment hatchback.
