New 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Arriving at a local dealership near you during the upcoming winter season, the 2024 edition of the Sonata for the US market is set to display Hyundai’s renowned Seamless Horizon Lamp, harmoniously combined with sleek headlights. Adding to the futuristic appeal of this sedan is a curved panel that seamlessly integrates two displays: one dedicated to the digital instrument cluster and another functioning as a touchscreen for the infotainment system.

Considering the array of options for potential buyers in terms of drivetrain, a trio of choices awaits them: a naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter engine, a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, and a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter engine designed for the Sonata Hybrid. Regrettably absent is the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, a notable omission. This engine variant produces a commendable 180 horsepower at 5,500 revolutions per minute (rpm), along with a torque of 195 pound-feet, as observed in the pre-facelift 2023 Sonata.

Regarding the specific power output for the 2.5-liter and 2.0-liter engines in the 2024 model, Hyundai has yet to disclose the figures. However, the current 2.5-liter turbocharged engine generates a robust 290 horsepower and a torque of 311 pound-feet at the time of publication. This particular engine is exclusively mated to a dual-clutch transmission of the wet-clutch category. On the other hand, the naturally-aspirated engine variant delivers 191 horsepower and a torque of 181 pound-feet, working in conjunction with a torque-converter automatic transmission. As for the Sonata Hybrid, it boasts a combined system output of 192 horsepower, managed by a paddle-shift automatic transmission equipped with six forward gears.

Reserved exclusively for the N Line sporty trim level is the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. The Sonata Hybrid showcases an innovative system known as e-Motion Drive, which, as Hyundai clarifies, enhances driving comfort across various scenarios. In simpler terms, the electric motor has the capability to minimize unwanted vibrations when encountering speed bumps and during acceleration, contributing to a smoother ride experience.

While the Sonata’s exterior redesign emphasizes aerodynamic efficiency, unfortunately, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has yet to release the combined test cycle fuel economy assessments. For future reference, the hybrid variant offers an impressive fuel efficiency of up to 52 miles per gallon, as compared to 32 miles per gallon for the naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter engine and 27 miles per gallon for the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine.

The significant highlight for the 2024 model year is the incorporation of HTRAC (Hyundai TRACtion) all-wheel drive. This system, operational in conjunction with the naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter engine, introduces an electro-hydraulic mechanism that, while noteworthy, does not necessarily redefine the landscape of automotive technology.

Distinguished by its H-lights taillights and a trunk lid housing an integrated spoiler, the Sonata offers a plethora of exterior paint color choices. The N Line version exclusively boasts the Aero Matte Silver hue, while other alternatives encompass Aero Silver Metallic, Cream Beige, Ultimate Red Metallic, Carbon Blue Pearl, Transmission Blue Pearl, Portofino Gray, Atlas White, Serenity White Pearl, and Onyx Black Pearl.

Hyundai enhances the package with the inclusion of standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay features. As for pricing details, they remain forthcoming. Currently, the 2023 model year is available at a base price of $25,450 for the naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter variant and $28,450 for the fuel-efficient Sonata Hybrid model.
