Toyota TRD Performance Package Power up Option For 2024 Tundra

Toyota has made a noteworthy announcement today, declaring its intention to introduce a TRD Performance Package for Tundra enthusiasts, with availability slated for early 2024.

This move by Toyota represents a strategic move to harness the potential of the all-new Tundra and its high-performance, twin-turbocharged i-FORCE V6 engine. Toyota, in its pursuit of delivering something truly distinctive to its clientele, has unveiled this exciting development.

“In its factory configuration, the base i-FORCE engine exhibits a formidable 389 horsepower at 5,200 revolutions per minute (rpm) and an impressive 479 pound-feet of torque at 2,400 rpm,” explained Greg Bernas, who holds the position of vice president, Toyota Service Parts and Accessories Development. “However,” he went on to say, “the TRD Performance Package elevates the power output to an impressive 421 horsepower at 5,200 rpm, while the peak torque comes into play 400 rpm earlier, at a mere 2,000 rpm. This not only broadens the torque spectrum but also markedly enhances power delivery when the accelerator is engaged.” Bernas further elaborated, “For those who opt for the i-FORCE MAX Tundra, this package cranks up the horsepower from 437 to a remarkable 469.”

Capitalizing on the robust foundation of Toyota’s i-FORCE engine architecture, the engineers have made strategic enhancements, primarily focusing on enhancing airflow into the turbochargers and fine-tuning the engine’s management through software upgrades. The TRD Performance Package integrates larger, more efficient dual intakes in conjunction with an upgraded cat-back exhaust system, which effectively reduces back pressure.

Following the installation of these hardware improvements, the engine management calibration is meticulously fine-tuned to maximize the benefits of the upgraded components, and it’s all done while utilizing premium 91 octane fuel. This vital component facilitates Toyota’s engineers in realizing the full potential of the engine. Buyers of the Tundra TRD Pro can anticipate identical horsepower and torque gains from their i-FORCE MAX powertrain. The inclusion of a distinct throttle tuning further complements the enhanced powertrain performance, delivering an exhilarating and dynamic driving experience.

Moreover, the TRD Performance Package brings aesthetic enhancements into the mix, such as a unique badge on the tailgate and a distinctive exhaust tip treatment. These visual cues, combined with the audible symphony of the turbochargers whirring and the imposing exhaust note, substantiate a tangible enhancement in performance that befits the TRD legacy.

“We aspired to build upon the excitement generated by the novel Tundra platform and its potent twin-turbo engine, which already packs an impressive punch in terms of horsepower and torque,” remarked Jakin Wilson, senior engineering manager at Toyota Motor North America.

In addition to the performance boost, the TRD Performance Package offers peace of mind to customers, backed by a comprehensive factory warranty and the convenience of financing options. This comprehensive kit is installed prior to the vehicle’s arrival at the dealership and is priced at an MSRP of $3,400.

Initially, the TRD Performance Package will be exclusively available for new Tundra models. Nevertheless, Toyota is actively exploring the possibility of extending this package to other vehicle models in the near future. Furthermore, they are diligently working on providing a dealer-installed option for existing Tundra owners who are eager to augment their vehicle’s power with the assurance of factory support.
