Audi, the renowned automobile manufacturer, has recently made a noteworthy commitment that is bound to shape the future of their vehicle lineup. Starting in 2026, Audi plans to exclusively introduce electric vehicles (EVs). However, before the complete transition to EVs, there is still room for one more exhilarating internal combustion engine (ICE) model. Brace yourselves, as the upcoming addition to Audi‘s lineup is set to be a scorching hot performer. While the RS6 has already received the Performance treatment, Audi is not settling for less. They are currently testing a spicier derivative of the RS6 at the iconic Nürburgring track. Thanks to a spy video, we get an exciting glimpse of the action-packed super wagon, which according to various reports, might bear the “GT” suffix. Coinciding with this meaner derivative could be a facelift for the standard RS6, enhancing its overall appeal.
At first glance, one might assume it’s just another variant of the RS6, but upon closer inspection, several notable changes become apparent. The front bumper has been redesigned with reshaped air intakes, providing a fresh aesthetic. Moreover, the bulging fenders now incorporate a vertical vent, adding a touch of sportiness. Moving to the rear, an eye-catching beefy spoiler has been derived from the wild 2020 RS6 GTO concept. Interestingly, Audi seems to have tweaked the bumper as well, incorporating horizontal reflectors to create an illusion of increased width, making the car even more imposing.
Drawing attention to the wheels, we observe massive “Y” spoke designs, seemingly borrowed from the RS6 Performance. Although the prototype spotted at the Nürburgring features a full roll cage for safety reasons, it is highly unlikely that such a feature will be present in the subsequent production model. When it comes to the interior, we don’t anticipate any drastic changes. After all, removing the rear seats to save weight wouldn’t be a sensible decision for a wagon. However, it’s worth noting that the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 sedan did offer a rear seat deletion option through the Track Pack, catering to track enthusiasts.
The exhilarating sound accompanying this exceptional vehicle is courtesy of a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine. In the current RS6 Performance, this powerhouse already generates an impressive output of 621 horsepower and 625 pound-feet (850 Newton-meters) of torque. While it remains uncertain how much additional power Audi will extract from the RS6 GT (name yet to be confirmed), we don’t anticipate a significant leap in performance figures.
Sebastian Grams, the head of Audi Sport, has tantalizingly hinted at the possibility of an even more extreme and potent RS6. He enigmatically mentioned that it would offer “even more performance, even sharper” characteristics. Furthermore, he revealed that a new RS model is slated for release in 2024. It remains unclear whether he was referring to the wagon itself or the highly anticipated RS3 Sportback/Sedan, which is expected to boast an upgraded inline-five engine.
Both the RS6 GT and the fiery RS3 are likely to be produced in limited numbers, making them high-priced and exclusive special editions. As we approach Audi’s commitment to transitioning to EVs from 2026, it is evident that these captivating ICE models will hold a special place in the hearts of automotive enthusiasts. The discontinuation of models like the TT RS and R8 has already signaled the beginning of the end for gasoline-powered sports cars. Audi’s forthcoming offerings are poised to leave an indelible mark on the industry before the electrified era takes full control.
