McLaren 720S vs 750S Performance and Price Comparison

Introducing the motoring realm’s newest gem, the McLaren 750S, which recently made its grand debut. This extraordinary supercar is an advanced iteration of the 720S, and its arrival is timely, given that the 720S has aged by six years – a fact that has rendered it less appealing to some aficionados.

The 750S boasts an array of enhancements, beginning with the refined aesthetics and continuing with the optimized chassis, innovative weight reduction methods, and an augmented V8 engine. The latter furnishes an additional 30 hp and 22 lb-ft of torque compared to the 720S, culminating in a total output of 740 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque for the 750S’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.

Performance-wise, the 750S achieves a 0-62 mph acceleration in a mere 2.8 seconds for both the Coupe and Spider variants, a tenth of a second faster than the 720S. Requiring only 7.2 seconds to reach 124 mph, the 750S Coupe trumps its predecessor by six-tenths of a second. However, its top speed has dipped from 212 to 206 mph, and it completes the quarter-mile in 10.1 seconds, instead of 10.3 seconds. Albeit these enhancements are evident on paper, they may be imperceptible during real-world drives for many enthusiasts. Moreover, the vehicle’s weight has been reduced from 2,828 pounds to 2,815 pounds.

Delving further into technicalities, the 750S sports a re-engineered chassis, incorporating McLaren’s innovative PCC III linked-hydraulic suspension system. It is equipped with lighter dampers and springs, bespoke accumulator tuning, and modified geometry to deliver enhanced feedback during high-speed cornering on racetracks. The updated steering ratio also contributes to the car’s performance, although it may not be discernible unless one possesses professional racing driver acumen. Additionally, the illustrious Senna served as a muse for the carbon ceramic brake discs and calipers. The nose-lift system has been upgraded, requiring only four seconds to elevate the vehicle’s front end for clearing speed bumps, as opposed to the previous ten-second duration.

Although the 750S may appear identical to its predecessor at first glance, several notable design modifications have been implemented. These include a reimagined front bumper with more compact air intakes, and reconfigured side intakes for superior V8 cooling, which facilitates the slight power boost. To distinguish between the two models, observe the rear end: the 750S features centrally mounted exhaust tips that appear as a unified component. This design change necessitated a new rear bumper, accompanied by a more diminutive McLaren logo above the license plate. The diffuser now has more prominent fins, the reflectors are smaller, and the taillights have been redesigned.

Previously, the McLaren 720S was priced at $310,500 in the United States before being discreetly phased out. As anticipated, the 750S comes with a heftier price tag, with the British manufacturer requesting a minimum of $324,000 for the Coupe variant.
