Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Revealed With Up To 640HP and Simulated Eight Speed Gearbox

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has made its grand entrance at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed, marking the official debut of Hyundai’s first high-performance electrified model under the N sub-brand. This cutting-edge vehicle sets the stage for Hyundai’s electrification strategy, as it paves the way for future electric vehicles from the brand.

With a dual-motor setup, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N boasts an impressive power output of 600 horsepower (448 kilowatts) and 545 pound-feet (740 Newton-meters) of torque. These figures may undergo slight adjustments prior to the start of production. Engaging the N Grin Boost function unleashes even more power, raising the performance to a remarkable 641 hp (478 kW) and 567 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque for a thrilling burst lasting 10 seconds.

Equipped with all-wheel drive, the Ioniq 5 N accelerates from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds, which drops to an astonishing 3.4 seconds with the N Grin Boost engaged. Its top speed reaches an impressive 161 mph (260 kph).

Hyundai offers the Ioniq 5 N with a high-capacity 84.0-kilowatt-hour battery, which utilizes 800-volt technology for rapid charging capabilities.

To optimize the vehicle’s battery performance, Hyundai introduces the N Battery Pre-conditioning system, allowing drivers to select between Drag or Track modes. The Track mode optimizes the battery temperature for extended track use, ensuring maximum performance. On the other hand, the Drag mode provides a short burst of total power, adding to the exhilaration of driving the Ioniq 5 N on public roads and the track.

The Ioniq 5 N incorporates several innovative features designed to enhance the driving experience. The N Race feature, accompanied by two additional modes, offers greater control over the car’s energy usage.

While Hyundai has not disclosed the curb weight of the Ioniq 5 N, it has revealed that the performance variant is heavier than the standard model. The entry-level Ioniq 5 SE Standard Range weighs approximately 3,968 pounds, while the all-wheel-drive Limited version tips the scales at about 4,663 pounds.

The Ioniq 5 N employs an advanced braking system for optimal performance. The N Brake Regen system serves as the primary braking force, with mechanical brakes supplementing as needed, especially during track driving.

Hyundai has also introduced the N Pedal as a solution to manage the weight and size of the Ioniq 5 N. This innovative software increases the regenerative braking force, creating a weight transfer that improves the car’s cornering capability and enables instant turn-in.

Another exciting feature is the N Drift Optimizer, which lives up to its name. This system coordinates multiple vehicle systems to maintain a drift angle.

Hyundai’s N e-shift and N Active Sound + systems contribute to an immersive driving experience. The N e-shift emulates the sensation of gearshifts found in Hyundai’s eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, replicating the jolt between shifts by controlling the motor’s torque output.

Complementing the N e-shift, the N Active Sound + system offers three distinct sound themes. The Ignition theme simulates the sound of Hyundai N’s 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, while the Evolution theme takes inspiration from the RN22e.

In terms of dimensions, the Ioniq 5 N is larger than the standard model. It boasts a width that is 1.6 inches (40 mm) wider at the bottom and an increased length of 3.2 inches (80 mm). The car sits approximately 0.79 inches (20 mm) closer to the ground, contributing to a more aggressive stance.

Inside the cabin, Hyundai has incorporated a newly designed N steering wheel, featuring the performance brand’s logo for the first time.

Hyundai prioritizes driver comfort on the track, evident through the installation of a knee pad and shin support on the reinforced center console, along with the addition of a sliding armrest.

The Ioniq 5 N comes in a variety of 10 colors, including two exclusive options: N Performance Blue Matte and N Performance Blue. The remaining color choices consist of Abyss Black Pearl, Cyber Gray Metallic, Ecotronic Gray Matte, Ecotronic Gray, Atlas White, Atlas White Matte, Gravity Gold Matte, and Soultronic Orange Pearl. The interior color scheme is limited to black with Performance Blue accents.

As for pricing, Hyundai has not released specific details for the Ioniq 5 N. However, the top-tier Limited trim of the standard Ioniq 5 starts at $53,935.

the Ioniq 5 N has not been announced, but it is expected to arrive at dealerships sometime next year. Hyundai plans to provide additional information regarding the vehicle’s range, price, and availability in the United States in the near future. The standard Ioniq 5 offers an estimated range between 220 and 266 miles.
