Full Presentation 2024 Toyota Alphard And Vellfire Minivans

Look beyond the massive grilles, and you’ll spot a pair of unassuming minivans. But don’t be fooled by their understated appearance, because Toyota has just unveiled the fourth-generation Alphard and its counterpart, the Vellfire. These remarkable vehicles join the ranks of the posh Lexus LM, which shares the same TNGA-K platform. What sets these new Toyota models apart is their innovative sliding doors, featuring steps that emerge about 220 millimeters (8.6 inches) above the ground, conveniently present on both the left and right sides.

Measuring 4995 mm (196.6 in) in length, with a substantial wheelbase stretching 3000 mm (118.1 in), these boxy minivans offer a spacious interior. They boast a width of 1850 mm (72.8 in), while the height varies depending on the model and trim level, ranging from 1935 mm (76.2 in) to 1945 mm (76.5 in). With a 2+2+2 seating configuration featuring second-row captain’s chairs, the Alphard and Vellfire can comfortably accommodate up to six people. Notably, there is now an extra 5 mm (0.2 in) of space between the first two rows and an additional 10 mm (0.4 in) between the second and third rows, enhancing passenger comfort.

Toyota proudly presents these new minivans as “luxury saloons” that offer a remarkable feature: a spacious overhead console extending from the front to the rear. This console incorporates ventilation, side lighting, and an array of controls, adding to the convenience and luxury of the Alphard and Vellfire. Moreover, these models introduce pull-down sunshades, a first for Toyota, and feature newly developed seats designed to reduce vibrations and enhance overall comfort.

Thanks to their new architecture, these minivans exhibit a 50 percent increase in rigidity, ensuring a more stable and refined driving experience. To further enhance cabin comfort, Toyota has incorporated additional sound-deadening materials and equipped the minivans with specialized tires to reduce noise intrusion. The front suspension features a MacPherson strut design, while the rear suspension has been revised to a double wishbone setup. Notably, owners will have the convenience of remotely parking their vehicles using a smartphone app.

The Alphard and Vellfire offer a range of drivetrain options, including front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and hybrid powertrains. Additionally, a plug-in hybrid variant is expected to join the lineup in the near future. Among the available engines, the Vellfire boasts the most powerful option—a turbocharged 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine that generates an impressive 275 horsepower (205 kilowatts) and 316 pound-feet (430 Newton-meters) of torque, all while delivering a sporty sound.

Customers can also opt for the hybrid models, which are powered by a 2.5-liter gasoline engine combined with an electric motor, offering a combined output of 250 horsepower (184 kW). Lower-tier Alphard models are equipped with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine producing 180 horsepower (134 kW) and 173 lb-ft (235 Nm) of torque. Depending on the engine choice, the minivans are available with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (e-CVT), or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota has high expectations for these minivans, with projected monthly sales of 8,500 units. The Alphard is anticipated to account for 70 percent of sales, while the Vellfire is expected to make up the remaining 30 percent

. In terms of pricing, the Alphard ranges from 5,400,000 yen to 8,720,000 yen (approximately $38,000 to $61,400), while the Vellfire’s price spans from 6,550,000 yen to 8,920,000 yen ($46,100 to $62,800).

In addition to traditional ownership, Toyota offers the option of temporary ownership through its KINTO subscription service. For a monthly fee starting at 50,490 yen ($355) for the Alphard and 63,800 yen ($449) for the Vellfire, customers can enjoy the benefits of these minivans without the commitment of long-term ownership. The Alphard and Vellfire are already available for ordering in Japan, catering to customers seeking a luxurious and versatile transportation solution.
