On the cusp of a thrilling reveal, MINI is tantalizing us with glimpses and snippets of information about their brand-new Cooper E and Cooper SE, showcasing both camouflaged and fully exposed prototypes. Enthusiasts can expect significantly enhanced specs for the fully electric versions of the three-door hatchback, a substantial upgrade from the previous generation.
In terms of power, the upcoming entry-level MINI Cooper E boasts 181 hp, aligning with the output of the retiring SE model. Nonetheless, the new MINI Cooper SE is set to deliver an impressive 215 hp, ushering in a superior performance experience. Though unconfirmed by MINI in their press release, whispers abound of a high-powered, fully electric JCW trim to grace the lineup in the future.
MINI’s diligent engineering team has made notable strides in augmenting the zero-emission range figures as well. The base of the vehicles now houses lithium-ion high-voltage batteries with capacities of 40.7 kWh in the Cooper E and 54.2 kWh in the Cooper SE, facilitating a projected range spanning between 186 and 249 miles. In contrast, the previous iteration could only muster a maximum of 144 miles, limited by a 32.6 kWh battery capacity.
