Ferrari has recently introduced their latest addition to the exclusive One-Off series, known as the Ferrari SP-8. This unique car is part of Ferrari’s Special Projects program and was crafted under the direction of Flavio Manzoni at the Ferrari Styling Centre. It is a mid-rear-engined V8 vehicle that shares its layout, chassis, and engine with the F8 Spider, forming the foundation of this remarkable creation.
The SP-8 one-off model holds a distinguished position in the Ferrari lineup, as it falls within the most exclusive segment of the brand’s offerings. These cars are meticulously designed to cater to the specific preferences of individual clients, resulting in the highest level of customization that embodies the essence of Ferrari craftsmanship.
While the SP-8 may seem like a roofless version of the F8 Spider with an elegant two-tone paint job, it departs from its donor car in several significant ways. For instance, the headlights feature entirely new designs with distinctive masks and lenses. Meanwhile, the taillights draw inspiration from the Roma model’s rear lights but are enhanced with bespoke lenses. Ferrari has also incorporated elements from the 296 GTB, such as the windscreen and exhaust tips. The wheels, reminiscent of the F40’s iconic design, sport a contemporary twist with their five-spoke alloy construction and matte gray finish.
The front grille of the SP-8 is a striking feature, characterized by its impressive width and crafted from a single mold using 3D printing technology. It features vertical strakes, adding a touch of retro flair to the design. These same vertical strakes can also be seen on the engine cover, paying homage to classic Ferrari models that featured side strakes, like the Testarossa. Ferrari’s meticulous approach to design includes extensive computational fluid dynamics simulations to ensure the car’s comfort and quietness, even when the roof is down.
Inside the SP-8, there is a notable change in the gear selector, which harks back to the iconic gated shifters of yesteryears. This design is not entirely new, as it made its debut with the SF90 Stradale in 2019. Surprisingly, the interior of the SP-8 combines cloth and laser-etched Navy Blue Alcantara, a departure from the traditional Ferrari materials. The carpets are crafted from twill fabric, boasting an iridescent effect that adds a touch of sophistication to the cabin.
Under the hood, the SP-8 retains the same mid-mounted V8 engine, a twin-turbo 3.9-liter powerhouse that delivers a robust 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, channeling its performance to the rear wheels.
Currently, the Ferrari SP-8 is on display in Italy at the Mugello track and will remain there until the conclusion of the Finali Mondiali Ferrari 2023 event on October 30. Subsequently, it will find its place in the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, where it will be exhibited from November 16 until March 2024.
