BMW Vision Neue Klasse Concept Revealed

Unveiling a glimpse into the future of BMW’s electric vehicle design landscape, the BMW i Vision Dee concept sparked intrigue with its radical approach. Now, at the IAA Mobility 2023 show in Munich, a fresh iteration known as the BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept takes the stage, promising even more cues and features destined for production.

Retaining the essential form of its predecessor, the Neue Klasse concept boasts notable substance enhancements. The distinctive “shark nose” hood, elegantly slanted, commands attention at the front, accompanied by illuminated horizontal kidney grilles stretching to the bumper’s edge. These house slanted LED running lights, their creation employing advanced 3D printing techniques.

The vehicle’s aesthetics are elevated further by an upturned black diffuser and new 21-inch wheels, a sportier design than the i Vision Dee. The wheels pay homage to BMW’s racing heritage with a classic cross-spoke design. Taillights mirroring the front-end’s kidney-grille-and-headlight configuration and the introduction of a minimalist logo contribute to the Neue Klasse’s distinctive allure.

This design’s “almost monolithic” elegance offers not just aesthetic appeal but also functional benefits. With a 30 percent increase in range and 25 percent efficiency boost compared to current EVs, the Neue Klasse concept combines sleekness with BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology. Expect a 20 percent density increase, 25 percent improved efficiency, and 30 percent faster charging.

Within, BMW introduces the latest iDrive interface projected onto a unique parallelogram-like touchscreen. Notable features like the Intelligent Personal Assistant persist, while the addition of “Panoramic Vision” enriches the driving experience. This function, set to debut in the production Neue Klasse, projects graphics directly in the driver’s line of sight, coupled with gesture controls.

The Neue Klasse’s interior embodies minimalist retro aesthetics, evident in corduroy seats and a squircular steering wheel. By eliminating unnecessary adornments like chrome and leather, the design simplifies while lessening the carbon footprint during production. The Neue Klasse is slated for production in 2025 at BMW’s Debrecen facility, signaling an electric future expected to hit the roads by 2026. Fine details like pricing, range, and charging will be disclosed closer to the production model’s debut.
