2025 Volkswagen ID 7 Makes Its Debut Featuring a Maximum WLTP Range of 435 Miles

Volkswagen, one of the world’s leading car manufacturers, has introduced its latest electric model, the ID.7, marking a significant milestone in the company’s electric offensive. The ID.7 is Volkswagen’s first global electric model in the upper mid-size sedan class, offering customers a combination of advanced features such as an estimated range of up to 435 miles / 700 km, a revised powertrain, spacious interior, and premium technologies.

The ID.7 has been designed for long-distance travel, opening up a new segment for the Volkswagen EV family. The vehicle’s enhanced customer-focused operating concept and high-quality appearance are also some of its defining features. The ID.7 will be launched in Europe and China this year, followed by its introduction in North America from 2024.

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, said, “With the ID.7, we are taking the next step in our electric offensive. The ID.7 offers a high level of comfort and long ranges. By 2026, we will offer the broadest electric vehicle range of all manufacturers in Europe—from the entry-level model for less than 25,000 euros up to the ID.7 as the new top model within the EV family. Our goal is to achieve an electric car share of 80 per cent in Europe by 2030. From 2033, Volkswagen will produce only electric vehicles in Europe.”

The ID.7 utilizes the modular electric drive matrix (MEB), setting new efficiency standards that enable an estimated range of up to 700 kilometers2 on the WLTP standard. This has been made possible through excellent aerodynamics and significantly increased efficiency in the powertrain and thermal management. The ID.7 boasts the most powerful and highest-torque electric motor in a Volkswagen EV model to date, with 282 horsepower (210 kW), and the APP550 power unit was developed with Volkswagen Group Components in Kassel (Germany) and is also produced there.

Moreover, the ID.7 has been optimized for energy efficiency, and depending on the battery size, Volkswagen estimates that WLTP ranges of up to 435 miles (700 km) and DC fast charging capacities of up to about 200 kW will be possible. The ID.7’s roof slopes elegantly to the rear, like a coupe, and its long wheelbase and short overhangs create ample space in the interior for all occupants.

The ID.7 also features a new operating and display concept that has been improved based on customer feedback, including the availability of the new massage seats, and the electro-chromic dimming panoramic sunroof. The vehicle is equipped with premium technologies that are exclusive, comfortable, and highly usable for everyday use. The ID.7 also features a full suite of level-2 ready driver assist features and a range of other options, such as the 700-watt sound system from Harman Kardon and the adaptive Climatronic cooling or heating with a drying function.

Volkswagen is planning to launch ten new electric models worldwide by 2026, with the ID.7 being one of them. This year alone sees the introduction of the facelifted ID.3, the long-wheelbase ID. Buzz, and the ID.7. A compact electric SUV and the production version of the sub-€25,000 ID.2 are planned for 2026, positioning Volkswagen to have the widest range of electric vehicles compared with its competitors. The ID.7 will be produced in the Volkswagen plant in Emden for the European and North American markets, while the corresponding ID.7 models will be produced locally in China.
