The 2024 Subaru Impreza and Subaru Crosstrek, both compact cars, have earned accolades from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) due to improvements in their side crash protection and the removal of subpar headlight options.

The 2024 Impreza, with its good rating in the updated side test, has secured the prestigious TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation. On the other hand, the 2024 Crosstrek, although earning an acceptable side rating, proudly bears the TOP SAFETY PICK title. This marks a significant improvement over their 2023 counterparts, which received poor ratings in the revamped side evaluation introduced the previous year.

To be eligible for the TOP SAFETY PICK+ award in 2023, a vehicle must not only attain a good rating in the updated side test but also excel in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, and the original moderate overlap front tests. Additionally, all trim levels must feature acceptable or good headlights as standard, and a front crash prevention system that garners advanced or superior ratings in both the daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian assessments must be available.

In contrast, the lower-tier TOP SAFETY PICK award requires only an acceptable rating in the updated side test and an advanced or superior rating in the daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian test.

Both the redesigned vehicles come equipped with high-quality headlights across all trims. Previously, some versions of the Crosstrek had subpar headlights, and certain Impreza trims featured headlights with marginal performance.

Furthermore, both vehicles include standard front crash prevention systems that achieve a superior rating in both the daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian tests.

Notably, the Impreza is now exclusively available in a wagon configuration as the sedan option has been discontinued.
