Sadly, for those of us residing in the United States, the opportunity to experience the new second-generation Lexus LM, which made its debut at the Shanghai auto show, remains a distant dream. While the U.S. boasts ultra-luxurious sedans like the Mercedes-Benz S-class and extravagant SUVs like the Bentley Bentayga, the van category remains uncharted territory.

Lexus, however, is expanding the LM’s availability by introducing it in over 60 countries, including Europe and Japan for the first time. Lucky individuals in these regions can enjoy the numerous enhancements that come with the van’s second generation. These enhancements include a structure that boasts 50 percent more rigidity and a new suspension designed to enhance ride comfort and minimize vibrations. Additionally, a new drive mode, specially designed for rear-seat comfort, adjusts damping forces and reduces sensations caused by acceleration and braking.

To maintain a tranquil cabin atmosphere, Lexus has prioritized noise reduction by tackling various sources, particularly road and wind noise. In addition to enhancing soundproofing, the engines and their mounts have been fine-tuned to minimize noise and vibrations. Both engine options are hybrids, with one utilizing a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and the other, presumably, offering more power thanks to its 2.4-liter turbo-four gas engine.

The Lexus LM’s distinctive design ensures it’s unmistakably a member of the Lexus family. The brand has achieved this with a bold interpretation of its signature spindle grille, foregoing a defined border and allowing the body color to flow seamlessly into the grille while reducing gaps between elements. The LM measures 201.8 inches in length, 74.4 inches in width, and stands at approximately 77 inches in height. While these dimensions are larger than its predecessor, the wheelbase remains unchanged at 118.1 inches.

A cursory glance is all it takes to realize that the Lexus LM is a substantial van, and this translates into a generously roomy interior, surpassing its Mercedes or Bentley counterparts in terms of space for various activities. While executives and affluent individuals who prefer to be chauffeured may opt for the four-seat configuration, the LM also accommodates six to seven passengers.
