The Hyundai Elantra N gets its powerful engine from the Veloster N hatchback, a robust turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. While the Veloster N cranks out a solid 275 horsepower, the Elantra N takes it up a notch with a 286-hp rating, thanks to a nifty feature called N Grin Shift. This power boost sets the Elantra N apart, especially when you compare it to the Jetta GLI, which falls in a similar price range.
What’s even better is that the Elantra N doesn’t limit you to an automatic transmission. You can opt for an eight-speed automatic if you prefer, but here’s the exciting part – the standard offering is a six-speed manual. During our meticulous testing of the Elantra N equipped with the eight-speed automatic, we clocked impressive numbers. It sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds and blazed through a quarter-mile in 13.4 seconds, hitting a trap speed of 106 mph.
When you get behind the wheel of the Elantra N, you’ll notice its sharp throttle response, nimble handling, and a pleasing exhaust note. Additionally, the Elantra N’s longer wheelbase contributes to a smoother ride compared to the Veloster N. However, it still maintains the stability and confidence you’d expect from a sporty sedan. In essence, spending more time with the Elantra N solidifies its status as a formidable contender in the realm of lively compact sports cars.
