The island’s famously azure skies and remarkably clear waters served as the wellspring of inspiration for the striking paint treatment showcased on the new automobile. Few individuals possess the credentials required to traverse the crossroads of nature, art, and science quite like James Fox. At 41 years old, he currently serves as the Director of Studies in the History of Art at Cambridge’s Emanuel College, having obtained his own degree from the same institution back in 2002. With scholarships from prestigious institutions like Harvard and Yale, Fox has seamlessly melded academia with a thriving career spanning both broadcast and print media. His portfolio boasts an impressive 12 documentaries on art and culture for prominent platforms like BBC and CNN. His most recent literary contribution, “The World According To Colour: A Cultural History,” garnered significant acclaim upon its publication in 2021.
Even as Lamborghini commemorates its illustrious 60-year legacy, the company’s pioneering exploration into color remains an ongoing saga. The “Opera Unica” Huracán Sterrato stands as the most recent, and arguably the most dramatic, chapter. Three distinct shades of blue—Blu Amnis, Blue Grifo, and Blu Fedra—adorn the exterior. Inside, the interior features Blu Delphinus for the seats, door panels, and center console, complemented by Celeste Phoebe detailing. The outcome is an automobile without peer.
Fox’s awe at the sight of the Huracán Sterrato is palpable, “Upon my initial encounter with the Huracan Sterrato, astonishment enveloped me. This is no mere car; it’s a canvas, a masterpiece. Every hue is akin to a marvel, a minuscule burst, a slight detonation that materializes only through the convergence of the physical world and the observer. It’s a marriage of science and poetry.”
The tapestry of color has proven capable of instilling a machine with individuality, as Lamborghini’s narrative exemplifies. Within this singular creation, the choice of blue might appear reserved at first glance. However, as Fox elaborates, blue emerges as a more enigmatic hue than one might fathom.
“Colors harbor enigmas; yet, none rival blue in mystery,” he asserts. “Blue envelops us, yet remains tantalizingly out of reach. It is omnipresent, yet elusive. On an isle like Sardinia, its presence is all-encompassing. The vibrant azure sky above, the cerulean sea below. But these blues are illusory, figments of perception. In actuality, the sky wears a cloak of black even in daylight. The illusion manifests as sunlight traverses the atmosphere. Atmospheric molecules scatter blue wavelengths across the sky, bestowing it with its blue visage. Similarly, the sea’s blue is a reflection, mirroring the sky’s illusion of blueness.”
He continues, “Blues often reside in depths, in vistas, in the heavens’ heights and the ocean’s abyss. They elude grasp, evade touch. Another peculiarity of blue is its rarity in the natural world. Numerous languages lacked a term for blue due to its mysterious scarcity in our realm. Even in contemporary times, several languages remain devoid of a dedicated word for blue.”
