Nevertheless, they did afford us a glimpse into the general design approach, which doesn’t stray far from what we witnessed with the 5 Series sedan, making its debut in May.
Now, a fresh set of unofficial representations inject some much-anticipated vibrancy into the trademark images. These depictions showcase an elegant wagon wearing the M Performance badge, thereby infusing sportier aesthetics into the 5 Series. This transformation is most conspicuous in the revised bumpers, characterizing the wagon’s facade.
The frontal view boasts conspicuous black embellishments encircling the lower grille aperture, a facet that acquires greater prominence in the M Performance iteration. Furthermore, the peripheral inlets exhibit added glossy black accents. The posterior aspect displays a spirited bumper enhancement, embracing the rear marker lights in triangular configurations, reminiscent of the M Performance-adorned sedan. The wagon also boasts a lowered stance, signifying its enhanced sporty disposition. It’s probable that this iteration will feature increased dimensions compared to its predecessor, similar to the 5 Series sedan’s growth of 3.4 inches in length and 1.3 inches in width, which augurs well for the wagon’s cargo capacity.
In the realm of powertrain options, BMW will present a multitude of choices for the 5 Series. The entry-level 530i sedan in the United States incorporates a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, churning out 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. On the other hand, the 540i, exclusively offered with all-wheel drive, employs the brand’s straight-six engine, generating an output of 375 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque.
Excitingly, BMW has confirmed the introduction of a high-performance M version for the 5 Series Touring. Our spy photographers have spotted it undergoing rigorous testing at the Nurburgring. While specific powertrain details remain shrouded in secrecy, prevailing indicators suggest it may adopt the hybrid powertrain from the XM SUV. This electrified V8 powerplant delivers a staggering 735 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque, with the wagon anticipated to offer an impressive 718 hp.
Anticipation is building for the unveiling of the next-generation BMW 5 Series Touring, with hopes that it might grace the scene before the close of the current year. However, it wouldn’t be unexpected if the grand revelation is deferred until early 2024.
