Toyota EPU Electric Pickup Truck Concept Revealed

Toyota is gearing up to unveil an electric truck designed for Japan Mobility 2023. This new-age mid-size pickup truck concept boasts a monocoque body, which might sound complex but essentially means it’s built as one solid piece for extra toughness, making it a practical and stylish Battery Electric Vehicle. It’s a little over 16 feet in length and sports a double cab design. What’s neat about the EPU’s monocoque structure is that it provides a flexible deck space, making it suitable for various uses.

Speaking of versatility, the back of the cabin smoothly connects with the deck, accommodating different preferences and catering to folks with various lifestyles, including those who love outdoor activities.

Now, let’s talk about the BEV aspect. One of the advantages of electric vehicles is that they’re super quiet. Plus, this one is smartly designed with a low center of gravity, which makes it easy to handle and ensures a comfy ride.

In terms of size, the EPU is just a tad over 16 feet long and has a 132-inch wheelbase, putting it in the category of smaller trucks, like the Ford Maverick. It’s about 6 feet wide and less than 6 feet tall, making it compact and suited for a specific group of drivers. It follows the monocoque structure trend, similar to the Maverick, and has four doors with room for up to five people.

Now, let’s peek under the hood—or rather, where the hood would be if it had one. Toyota hasn’t spilled the beans on the EPU’s powertrain yet, but they did let us in on one secret—it’s electric. So, don’t expect to find a traditional engine under there. The presence of off-road tires suggests that it might have a dual-motor setup for tackling tough terrains.

Excitingly, you’ll get a chance to check out the EPU and several other cool Toyota concepts, like the Land Cruiser Se, at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo. The doors will swing open for the public on October 26. So, if you’re into innovative wheels and a glimpse of the future of mobility, mark your calendar!
