As the countdown to the arrival of the 2024 Ford Mustang continues, anticipation grows among car enthusiasts. The upcoming seventh-generation of this iconic pony car promises to maintain its traditional internal-combustion power and even offers the option for a manual transmission, satisfying those who relish the thrill of shifting gears. To keep us in the loop, Ford has recently updated the online Mustang configurator, treating us to a wealth of comprehensive information and captivating images that showcase the various configurations available for early models.

The configurator was actually launched earlier this spring, shedding light on the fact that the highest-priced 2024 Mustang can soar to a remarkable $80,000. But now, we are privy to more detailed descriptions of the diverse options at our disposal, along with an enhanced visual representation of both the interior and exterior when these options are applied. Additionally, we’ve gained valuable insights into the choices made by prospective buyers up until June, as Ford graciously shared the percentages corresponding to the selected equipment and features.

One notable trend emerging among customers is their fondness for the new electronic drift brake, particularly among those opting for the four-cylinder EcoBoost models. This enticing feature is included in the High Performance Package, and its appeal is so strong that it boasts a 50 percent adoption rate for the package as a whole. It’s worth noting that the 2024 Mustang EcoBoost exclusively offers a 10-speed automatic transmission, as the manual option has been omitted due to its previous low popularity, with a meager 10 percent of buyers opting for it in earlier models.

For the V8 Mustangs, however, the six-speed manual option is still available, albeit with less fervor from buyers. According to Ford, only 27 percent of early GT and Dark Horse orders select the manual transmission, leaving a significant majority of 73 percent favoring the automatic alternative. Although Ford previously stated that the manual transmission was chosen by over 40 percent of GT buyers, it’s important to bear in mind that these figures represent the initial stages of the seventh-generation model, and thus, it is premature to draw any definitive conclusions.

Taking a deeper dive into the early 2024 Mustang statistics, Ford has disclosed the popularity of the Performance and Nite Pony packages. The Performance upgrade is favored by 22 percent of GT buyers, entailing the addition of Brembo brakes behind 19-inch wheels, a Torsen differential, a black strut tower brace, a K-brace, a larger rear sway bar, heavy-duty front springs, customized tunings for the chassis and electronic systems, a body-colored performance rear wing, and more. Priced at $4,995, this package ranks among the higher-priced options available for the 2024 Mustang.

On the other hand, the Nite Pony package, priced at $1,195, garners more popularity, with 26 percent of buyers opting for it. As the name suggests, this package embellishes the exterior with a multitude of sleek black accents, including wheels, badges, mirrors, the spoiler, headlight trim, and the roof. Ford also reveals that Shadow Black holds sway as a favorite color choice among GT and EcoBoost models, with an impressive take rate of 17 percent. Oxford White follows at 13 percent, while Rapid Red claims 11 percent. However, when it comes to the high-output Mustang Dark Horse, Blue Ember reigns supreme, commanding a staggering 39 percent of the color preferences, with Vapor Blue capturing 18 percent and Shadow Black retaining 16 percent.

In terms of performance, the 2024 EcoBoost Mustangs impress with their turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engines, generating a robust 315 horsepower. Meanwhile, GT enthusiasts are treated to the mighty Gen-4 Coyote 5.0-liter V8, capable of producing an impressive 486 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque. For those seeking an even higher power output, the Mustang Dark Horse raises the bar to a round 500 horsepower. With order books now open, eager customers can expect their deliveries to commence later this year, marking the beginning of a new era for the iconic Ford Mustang.
