Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe sold for record price

The Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe recently made headlines by selling for an astounding price of 1.2 million US-Dollar. This unique vehicle was specially built by Porsche Classic for the esteemed Porsche Club of America, and a dedicated Porsche enthusiast was lucky enough to secure it. The restoration process for this classic car was a labor of love that spanned over two and a half years. Skilled experts meticulously transformed a used 911 Carrera (Type 996) from 1998 into the remarkable Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe. In line with the Porsche “Sonderwunsch” program, the sports car underwent extensive customization.

The auction where this remarkable vehicle was sold took place during the 75th anniversary celebration of Porsche Cars North America. The venue for the auction was the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, USA. The Broad Arrow auction house hosted the event, offering a total of 75 rare and coveted Porsche vehicles. Among the collection of prized cars provided by private owners were notable models such as the 904 Carrera GTS from 1964, the 962 from 1984, and the 911 SC “Safari” Rally from 1980.

The inspiration for this unique vehicle project drew from the 911 Sport Classic (997), which was launched in 2009. It’s important to note that this special model was limited to only 250 units and was not available for sale in the United States. During the restoration process of the Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe, other elements were incorporated from the new 911 Sport Classic (992). At the time, the details of this upcoming model were still under wraps, but certain aspects such as the Sport Gray Metallic exterior and the seat center panels were utilized in this one-of-a-kind car. These elements combined elements from both vehicles, including the use of braided leather in a Pepita houndstooth pattern. This collaboration between Porsche Classic and the PCA resulted in an exciting vehicle concept that made its way to the United States. Moreover, it showcased the possibilities offered by the new Porsche Classic “Sonderwunsch” program.

The exterior of the 911 Classic Club Coupe boasts several distinctive features that make it truly stand out. Its Sport Grey Metallic paintwork is accentuated by light grey and blue accents, while a double-dome roof adds to its unique aesthetics. Fuchs rims and a fixed rear spoiler in the iconic ducktail style of the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 from 1972 further enhance its visual appeal. Many exterior and interior details are customized with PCA’s signature Club Blue, adding a personal touch. The sports seats and door panels, for example, are crafted with intricate woven leather in a Pepita houndstooth pattern.

The transformation of this vehicle goes beyond its appearance; it has also undergone significant technical improvements. The powertrain now features the second-generation 996 GT3 engine, enabling the Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe to deliver an impressive 280 kW (381 PS) from its 3.6-liter engine. The chassis and brakes have also been upgraded, drawing from the GT3 model.

In conclusion, the sale of the Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe for a record-breaking price highlights the allure and desirability of classic cars. This remarkable vehicle, meticulously restored over several years, combines elements from previous iconic Porsche models, resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind creation. With its unique features and powerful performance, the Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe stands as a testament to the passion and craftsmanship of both Porsche Classic and the PCA.
