New 2025 Mini Cooper Hardtop Revealed In Official Photos

Mini has finally unveiled the initial official snapshots of the upcoming Cooper hatchback, which is anticipated to hit the US market in the 2025 model year. The automaker had initially provided a glimpse of the new Cooper in 2021, featuring a concealed prototype and confirming that the classic city car would offer both internal-combustion and electric powertrains.

Despite the release of the images, Mini has chosen to remain quiet regarding the details of the car’s design. Nevertheless, the photographs reveal a more streamlined exterior design, with the circular headlights seamlessly integrated into the body, and the broader octagonal grille outline creating a visual lowering effect. The grille itself is mostly blanked off, with a small opening at the bottom for cooling purposes, and a slender black strip at the top, which appears to conceal sensors. However, the car still exudes the unmistakable aura of a Mini.

The sharp creases present on the hood provide the Cooper with a purposeful stance, and the example showcased in the images, adorned with the “S” badge, boasts a striking set of geometric wheels. However, the most conspicuous change is at the rear, where the rectangular taillights have been swapped out for triangular units embellished with intricate LED lights that still retain the distinctive design of the Union Jack flag.

The overall styling of the Cooper appears to be consistent with the undisguised prototypes that were previously sighted in China towards the end of 2021. It is therefore surprising that it has taken this long for the Cooper to be officially unveiled. Based on the small grille aperture, the green “S” badges, and the absence of a visible exhaust pipe, it is highly probable that this particular Cooper model is an EV.

The electric version of the Mini Cooper will be assembled in China on a platform developed in collaboration with Great Wall Motor, while a gas-powered version, which is expected to exhibit the same styling as the EV, will be produced on an updated version of the current platform and constructed in Oxford, England. It is anticipated that the internal-combustion variant will feature the same turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder and turbocharged 2.0-liter four-pot engines as its predecessor. It is expected that additional information regarding the next-generation Cooper will be released in the near future.
