Over the recent period, eagle-eyed car enthusiasts have spotted multiple prototypes undergoing testing across various European locales. This suggests that the highly anticipated unveiling of the next-gen X2 is on the imminent horizon. BMW has tantalized us with a brief teaser, and while it may be concise, it offers intriguing insights into the vehicle’s design.

The snippet in question made its debut on Instagram, courtesy of Domagoj Dukec, who serves as the head of BMW’s design department. The video provides a lateral view of the X2, showcasing its distinctive coupe-inspired rear end. This aesthetic is characterized by a gracefully sloping roofline that culminates in a sharply angled rear hatch. A subtle yet effective static spoiler adds a final flourish to the design. The X2’s headlights are noteworthy as well, featuring C-shaped LED daytime running lights that lend a distinctive visual signature.

Beneath its rejuvenated exterior, the next-generation X2 will ride on BMW’s FAAR platform, a tried-and-true underpinning shared with the current X1 and several other models in the automaker’s stable. Notably, the powertrain options are expected to be somewhat modest in terms of cylinder count, with the range-topping M35i xDrive model likely to incorporate a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine churning out an impressive 312 horsepower. Lesser variants will cater to different markets and will encompass a mix of gasoline and diesel engines, with some variants offering electrified options to satiate the growing demand for eco-conscious motoring.
In addition to the conventional lineup, BMW is also cooking up an all-electric variant, the iX2. Production of this emissions-free crossover is slated to commence later this year in Germany, alongside its sibling, the iX1. While the automaker has yet to divulge the precise technical specifications for this zero-emission model, industry insiders speculate that it will share its powertrain with the iX1. This means the iX2 will harness the might of two electric motors, collectively delivering 313 horsepower and an impressive 364 pound-feet of torque.
