Lotus Emeya Electric Sedan Will Be Revealed September 7

The Lotus electric sedan, previously referred to as the Type 133, has been bestowed with an official designation – the Emeya. Scheduled for unveiling on September 7, this car marks Lotus’ third venture into the realm of electric vehicles, following the tracks of the Evija supercar and Eletre SUV.

Although the teaser video lacks explicit clarity regarding the car’s overall appearance, it adeptly showcases the distinctive lighting signatures that adorn the sedan’s front and rear ends. The Emeya boasts an array of sweeping LED daytime running lights at its fore, while at its rear, a slim and expansive light bar gracefully connects the taillights. These taillights, it seems, nestle seamlessly into the car’s fascia.

While a glimpse into the sedan’s interior has eluded us thus far, it’s plausible that design elements may be shared with its SUV counterpart, the Eletre. The SUV features a dashboard with a shelf-like configuration, housing screens in the driver and passenger’s line of sight. These screens flank a sizable infotainment display situated centrally, and it’s quite conceivable that such an arrangement might extend to the sedan.

The forthcoming Emeya is poised to rest upon Lotus’ Electric Premium Architecture, the same foundation that supports the electric Eletre SUV. Akin to its SUV sibling, the sedan is anticipated to harbor a 112.0-kilowatt-hour battery pack. Projections posit a range of up to 400 miles, with an added perk of rapid charging, enabling the battery to surge from 10 to 80 percent capacity within a mere span of 20 minutes.

Under the hood, the vehicle is likely to adopt a dual-motor setup accompanied by all-wheel drive functionality. Initial iterations could deliver a power output in the vicinity of 600 horsepower, while higher-tier models might astonishingly surpass the 900 hp mark. This substantial power quotient effectively thrusts the Emeya into direct competition with stalwarts like the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and the Tesla Model S Plaid.

Dynamic aerodynamics feature prominently in the Emeya’s repertoire, as accentuated by the teaser’s cues. To complement this prowess, Lotus has equipped the vehicle with cutting-edge air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and an active roll control mechanism.

The question of pricing remains elusive at this juncture. However, preliminary speculation suggests that the Emeya will likely be more affordable than the Eletre, a model projected to kick off at approximately $100,000. Despite the lack of official pricing data from Lotus, industry insiders surmise that the Emeya’s price point will fall short of six figures, albeit breaching the $100,000 threshold for top-tier configurations replete with premium add-ons.

All eyes are now fixed on September 7, the day that marks the grand unveiling of the Emeya. Lotus’ ambitious endeavors are evident in its revitalized lineup. Despite having only moved 576 units in the year 2022, the company has already accrued a staggering 17,000 pre-orders for its Emira and Eletre models. With bold sales targets set for the years ahead, Lotus is poised for a formidable resurgence in the automotive landscape.
