Ford has recently filed a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for an “electric vehicle performance mode with intentional wheel spin for tire heating.” This mode is designed to improve traction by heating or smoking the tires and to visually demonstrate the vehicle’s power. This mode is similar to line-lock, which is used in rear-wheel-drive Ford Mustangs. However, this patent goes beyond the typical line lock ability of most muscle cars, as it can be reversed, with a braking function applied at the back and the front axle receiving torque.
