First Production 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Sells For $1.15M

In an unprecedented event, the innovative 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, an electric marvel, garnered an astounding $1.1 million for the education-focused nonprofit DonorsChoose during the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction on April 15th. Tadge Juechter, Corvette’s Executive Chief Engineer, was present to fuel enthusiasm and propel bidding as the E-Ray traversed the auction block that Saturday afternoon.

Established in 2000, DonorsChoose set out to streamline the process of equipping educators with the tools they need by directly connecting donors to teacher requests. Since its inception, this remarkable organization has successfully funded over two and a half million classroom endeavors. The triumphant bid of $1.1 million was placed by Rick Hendrick, the chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group and owner of the 14-time NASCAR Cup Series victors, Hendrick Motorsports. Every cent of the winning bid will bolster DonorsChoose’s ongoing efforts to support public schools in economically disadvantaged communities.

“General Motors and Chevrolet are proud to join DonorsChoose on its mission of combatting inequality in school funding by providing underserved communities with the resources needed for a quality education,” said Steve Majoros, chief marketing officer, Chevrolet. “The Corvette E-Ray is a special product for Chevrolet, and we are honored that the proceeds from the sale of VIN 001 will aid this organization in supporting students and teachers around the nation.”

The Corvette E-Ray represents a pivotal moment in the model’s impressive 70-year journey, broadening its capabilities. Driven by a 6.2L Small Block V-8 at the rear and an electric motor at the front axle, the debut all-wheel drive Corvette boasts a cumulative 655 horsepower. The E-Ray claims the title of the fastest Corvette ever, reaching 0-60 mph in a mere 2.5 seconds.

Before the 2024 Corvette E-Ray was auctioned, Chevrolet similarly sold the initial retail production units of the 2020 Corvette Stingray and the 2023 Corvette Z06. Collectively, these eighth generation Corvettes have amassed a charitable total of $9.1 million through Barrett-Jackson auctions.
