2024 Suzuki GSX S1000GX Presentation at EICMA 2023

The 2024 Suzuki GSX-S1000GX+ is a new crossover motorcycle that adeptly blends the performance of a sport-tourer with the stance and suspension characteristics of an adventure bike. Positioned to compete with the likes of Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ and Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE LT+, this model is essentially a fusion of Suzuki’s GSX-S1000GT+ and V-Strom 1050 models.

In terms of suspension, the GSX-S1000GX+ features Suzuki’s first electronic suspension system as part of its comprehensive Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.). It incorporates Showa’s electronic damping control with four modes for personalized adjustments, along with Suzuki’s proprietary algorithms like Floating Ride Control, Velocity Dependent Control, and Deceleration Damping Control, enhancing ride quality and chassis stability. This sophisticated system uses a six-axis IMU from Bosch, a significant advancement in the bike’s electronics.

At its core, the GSX-S1000GX+ is powered by a 999cc in-line Four engine, originally derived from the GSX-R1000 K5, but retuned for better street performance. This engine, known for its power in the mid- to high-RPM range, is crucial for sport-touring applications. The bike claims a peak output of 150 hp at 11,000 rpm and 78.2 lb-ft of torque at 9,250 rpm, with a bi-directional quick shift feature for seamless gear transitions.

The chassis is a mix of GSX-R derived aluminum, twin-spar frame, and a swingarm coupled with V-STROM 1050’s rider ergonomics, making it ideal for sport-oriented touring. This, along with spacious side cases and a center stand, enhance its touring capabilities.

For rider comfort, the GSX-S1000GX+ has a wider and closer handlebar setup, a thicker and more comfortable seat for both the rider and passenger, and rubber mounts on the handlebar and footpegs to minimize vibrations, contributing to reduced rider fatigue on long journeys.

In terms of electronics, the bike’s S.I.R.S. includes various advanced features like the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector Alpha (SDMS-α), customizable riding preferences, a lift limiter, cruise control, lean-sensitive traction control, and a roll torque control system for optimal acceleration in corners. The bike also boasts a 6.5-inch full-color TFT instrument panel with mySPIN smartphone connectivity for easy access to maps, calls, and other features.

Priced at $18,499 in the U.S., it is available in three colors globally but only in Pearl Mat Shadow Green in the U.S. The 2024 Suzuki GSX-S1000GX+ offers a balanced mix of sport and touring capabilities with advanced electronics and comfort features, making it a compelling option for riders looking for a versatile and technologically advanced motorcycle.
