2024 Suzuki GSX-8R Presentation at EICMA 2023

The 2024 Suzuki GSX-8R is a new entrant in Suzuki’s middleweight sportbike lineup, featuring a full-faired design derived from the naked GSX-8S. It’s designed to offer an exciting blend of sportbike appeal, performance, and riding pleasure, making it suitable for a wide range of riders, from daily commuting to occasional track days.

The bike’s fairing is both familiar and distinct, with a front face shape reminiscent of the GSX-R family, but with stacked LED headlights similar to those on the V-Strom 800. This fairing has been wind tunnel tested for reduced drag and enhanced high-speed stability, and it’s combined with a windscreen for improved wind protection. The riding posture is more aggressive than its sibling, the GSX-8S, due to separate forged aluminum handlebars mounted on the steering clamp.

Mechanically, the GSX-8R shares the same 776cc parallel-twin engine as the GSX-8S, delivering a peak output of 81.8 hp at 8,500 rpm and 57.5 lb-ft of torque at 6,800 rpm. This engine is characterized by strong torque and smooth operation, thanks to Suzuki’s Cross Balancer system and a well-tuned electronic throttle. The bike also features ABS, traction control, selectable ride modes, low rpm idle assist, and a bi-directional quick shifter.

The GSX-8R also distinguishes itself with improved suspension. It uses a Showa SFF-BP inverted fork instead of the 8S’ KYB component, and the rear shock is a preload-adjustable Showa monoshock. The bike’s chassis and subframe are similar to the GSX-8S, but with a few differences, like a solidly mounted headlight in the fairing, aluminum bars for weight saving, and lower and forward-mounted handlebars. The brakes feature dual radial-mount four-piston Nissin calipers at the front and a single-piston caliper at the rear.

In terms of specifications, the GSX-8R has a tubular steel chassis, 6-speed transmission, a wet multiplate clutch, and a fuel capacity of 3.7 gallons. The front tire is a 120/70ZR17M/C, and the rear is 180/55ZR17M/C. The bike’s curb weight is 452 pounds, and it has a seat height of 31.9 inches.

The 2024 GSX-8R is available in four colors: Metallic Triton Blue, Pearl Ignite Yellow, Metallic Mat Sword Silver, and Metallic Mat Black No. 2, with pricing starting at $9,439 in the U.S.

Overall, the GSX-8R is engineered to provide excellent stability and agile handling, making it a versatile choice for riders looking for a bike that performs well in different scenarios. The Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) includes a three-mode Drive Mode Selector and a four-mode Advanced Traction Control System, along with the Easy Start & Low RPM Assist systems. The Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) ensures smooth shifting and engine braking, complemented by the bi-directional Quick Shift system.
