2024 Lexus LM Minivan Revealed

Undoubtedly, the Lexus LM stands out as a showstopper at Auto Shanghai 2023. Transitioning into its second generation, this opulent minivan is no longer exclusive to China, but will be marketed in over 60 countries globally under Toyota’s luxury brand. While Europe and Japan will welcome this elegant transporter, the United States will not receive the revamped model.

The 2024 LM boasts a fully redesigned, colossal body-colored front grille, and the rear badge has been replaced with bold “LEXUS” lettering. Its 19-inch wheels may appear diminutive, given the expanded body dimensions: 201.7 inches in length, 74.4 inches in width, and 77 inches in height. This latest model outgrows its predecessor, stretching an additional 3.1 inches, expanding 1.5 inches wider, and standing 0.4 inches taller, while maintaining the 118.1-inch wheelbase.

This authentic minivan features sliding doors and a spacious interior, available in three-row layouts with either six or seven seats. A luxurious two-row version, equipped with merely four seats, is designed to serve as a chauffeur-driven MPV. A remarkable 48-inch display, situated in front of the independent rear seats in the two-row model, dominates the space. Lexus highlights that the display isn’t solely for entertainment, but also facilitates online meetings.

The rear compartment also houses a refrigerator, storage compartments, and a privacy glass offering two-level dimming. Passengers can create an inviting ambiance using the 64-color ambient lighting system, complete with 14 preset themes and 50 customizable shades. A retractable, leather-wrapped table is neatly stowed within the armrest when not in use.

An innovative feature is the infrared sensor mounted atop the partition’s center portion. This sensor can detect the temperature of rear-seat passengers’ faces, chests, thighs, and lower legs. It also measures the temperature of windows, trim, and ceiling areas, which are influenced by ambient conditions. The sensor’s calculations then prompt automatic adjustments to the air conditioning for optimal comfort.

While Lexus remains tight-lipped about specific powertrain details, the 2024 LM will be available with a turbocharged 2.4-liter hybrid powertrain and a 2.5-liter hybrid option. The minivan displayed in Shanghai showcases 225/R19 tires, but the international version will offer smaller 17-inch wheels and 225/65 R17 tires. Torsional rigidity has improved by 50 percent in comparison to the first-generation model, and an adaptive suspension employs a frequency-sensitive piston valve within the shock absorber to smooth out road inconsistencies.
