2024 Lexus LBX Exterior and Interior Walkaround

Rumors have been swirling for quite some time about a more sophisticated version of the Yaris Cross, and now we have the official debut of the Lexus LBX. This compact crossover serves as the new entry-level model for Lexus, positioned below the UX, and acts as an indirect replacement for the discontinued CT hatchback. Despite sharing the same GA-B platform with its Toyota counterpart, the LBX features distinct styling to align with Lexus’ design language, both inside and out.

Measuring 4190 millimeters (165 inches) in length, 1825 mm (71.8 in) in width, and 1545 mm (60.8 in) in height, the LBX has a wheelbase of 2580 mm (101.5 in). Equipped with 18-inch wheels as standard, this petite Lexus is actually slightly larger than the Yaris Cross and weighs in at 1,280 kilograms (2,821 pounds). The LBX will be available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, with all configurations featuring a continuously variable transmission.

Under the hood, the LBX packs a hybrid powertrain centered around a three-cylinder, 1.5-liter gasoline engine. With a combined power output of 134 horsepower (100 kilowatts) and a maximum torque of 185 Newton-meters (136 pound-feet), the LBX offers ample electrified performance, capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 9.2 seconds. Additionally, it boasts a maximum towing capacity of 750 kilograms (1,653 pounds).

Regardless of the drivetrain, all versions of the new Lexus LBX benefit from a MacPherson strut front suspension. For the front-wheel-drive models, the rear suspension employs a torsion beam, while the all-wheel-drive variant features a double wishbone setup. Technical details about the AWD system have yet to be disclosed, but we do know it will incorporate an electric motor at the rear. Interestingly, the compact crossover employs an aluminum hood and molded resin wheel arches, rockers, and lower door sections to maintain a lightweight construction.

Stepping inside the LBX, occupants will be greeted by a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, complemented by an optional head-up display. The infotainment system comprises a 9.8-inch touchscreen, which supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. However, it’s worth noting that only Apple CarPlay offers wireless connectivity. For an enhanced audio experience, Lexus has partnered with Mark Levinson to deliver a 13-speaker sound system complete with a subwoofer.

If you opt for the front-wheel-drive model, you’ll have access to a cargo capacity of 332 liters (11.7 cubic feet) with the rear seats in place. However, the LBX equipped with all-wheel drive may be slightly less practical due to the additional hardware installed at the rear. Despite being the new entry-level model, Lexus assures that no compromises have been made in terms of quality and attention to detail. Notably, the LBX represents the first Lexus model primarily developed in Europe.

Production of the Lexus LBX is scheduled to commence by the end of this year, with sales expected to begin in Europe and other markets in early 2024.
