2024 Cupra Tavascan All Electric Car Explained

Cupra, a subsidiary of SEAT, has fully revealed its sophomore all-electric automobile and inaugural electric SUV—the Tavascan. Previously previewed, the Cupra Tavascan now emerges, basking in the spotlight.

Two power outputs are available: a 281-horsepower single-motor RWD Tavascan Endurance variant with 402 pound-feet (545 Newton-meters) of torque, and a 335-horsepower dual-motor AWD Tavascan VZ model with 500 lb-ft (679 Nm) of torque. The latter can sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.6 seconds.

Each version is equipped with a 77-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, offering a WLTP range of 342 miles (550 km) for the RWD model and 323 miles (520 km) for the AWD variant. The Cupra Tavascan also provides five levels of energy recuperation and an optional heat pump to maximize efficiency.

Charging the Tavascan from 10 to 80 percent state of charge (SoC) takes under 30 minutes using a DC fast charger with a minimum output of 135 kW. Additionally, the battery can gain 62 miles of range in a mere 7 minutes.

Sporting an SUV coupe silhouette, the Tavascan is Cupra’s response to the Volkswagen ID.5, Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV, and Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback. Constructed on the VW Group’s MEB foundation, this emotion-fueled, driver-centric SUV was conceived and crafted in Barcelona, Spain.

Slightly exceeding the VW ID.5 in length, width, and height, Cupra’s debut electric SUV spans 182.8 inches (4,644 millimeters) in length, 73.2 inches (1,861 millimeters) in width, and 62.9 inches (1,597 millimeters) in height, with a 108.9-inch (2,766 millimeter) wheelbase.

Aesthetically, the Cupra Tavascan borrows from the Tavascan concept car revealed at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, albeit more restrained for mass production. This design language will permeate future electrified Cupra models.

Distinctive features include a bold front end with matrix LED headlights and a three-triangle eye signature, an illuminated Cupra emblem, an expansive lower grille, a dynamic side profile sporting a black A-pillar and dual descending creases, and a rear end with high-set taillights linked by a light strip and an imposing diffuser.

The interior boasts a central backbone supporting the entire dashboard, sleek air vents, a multifunction sports steering wheel, a 15-inch central touchscreen—the largest in a Cupra model to date—powered by a novel Human Machine Interface (HMI), and standard sporty bucket seats.

Passenger comfort is prioritized in both the front and rear, with clever storage solutions integrated throughout. The Tavascan’s trunk provides 19 cubic feet (540 liters) of cargo space, slightly more than the Q4 e-tron Sportback but marginally less than the VW ID.5 and Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV.

Incorporating the latest technology compatible with the VW Group’s MEB platform, the Tavascan features advancements in powertrain, chassis, connectivity, safety, and convenience.

Similar to its Volkswagen, Skoda, and Audi counterparts, the Cupra Tavascan includes a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems such as Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Assist, Connected Travel Assist, Emergency Assist, Side and Exit.
