Citroen’s latest offering, the fourth-generation C3, is set to revolutionize the market by embracing electric power. Having already sold over 5.6 million combustion-powered C3s, the French automaker is embarking on a journey towards zero emissions. In 2024, they will introduce the e-C3, an all-electric vehicle, into the European market, starting at a reasonable price of approximately 23,300 Euros. Furthermore, there are plans to introduce an even more affordable model in 2025, which could potentially become one of the most budget-friendly electric vehicles on the continent. But before delving into those details, let’s take a closer look at what this new supermini brings to the table.
Built on Stellantis’ Smart Car Platform, this model showcases a brand-new design language compared to its predecessor. The traditional small hatchback has evolved into a crossover-like machine, with the wheels pushed to the outer limits. This, in combination with the generous roofline, results in a notably more spacious cabin. Citroen boasts an additional 1.18 inches of headroom and 0.8 inches of extra knee room for passengers.
The most noticeable visual change is upfront, where the e-C3 proudly displays Citroen’s new logo, flanked by a pair of C-shaped lights. Moving to the rear, the taillights elegantly extend into the rear quarter panels, and a modest static spoiler adorns the rear window as standard equipment.
However, the most significant changes lie beneath the surface. The combustion engines of the previous model have been replaced with an all-electric powertrain. The 2024 e-C3 is powered by a 44-kilowatt-hour Lithium Ferro Phosphate battery, providing a range of up to 320 kilometers between charges, as measured by the WLTP cycle. Its 113-horsepower electric motor, located on the front axle, offers a sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in approximately 11 seconds. When it comes to recharging, using a 7-kilowatt charger, the battery can go from 20 to 80 percent capacity in about four hours. For even faster charging, a visit to a DC fast charging station with the 100-kW CCS port can reduce that time to less than 30 minutes.
Citroen intends to offer the new e-C3 in two trim levels – You and Max. The base model comes equipped with LED headlights, an emergency braking system, a head-up display, power side mirrors, rear parking sensors, and cruise control. Opting for the Max grade adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a two-tone exterior paint option, automatic wipers, power-folding and heated side mirrors, automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, and more.
With today’s exchange rates, the e-C3 will hit the market with a starting price of 23,300 Euros. In 2025, Citroen has plans to introduce a model with a smaller battery pack, offering a range of 200 kilometers on a single charge, and a price tag of approximately 19,990 Euros. This move positions the e-C3 as one of the most competitively priced electric vehicles in Europe, nearly matching the starting price of the Dacia Spring, which is currently available for 20,800 Euros in France, before accounting for local incentives.
