The much-anticipated Acura Integra has finally made its comeback, and it’s everything the fans have been waiting for. While the base model may not have met everyone’s expectations, Acura has stepped up its game with the all-new 2024 Type S performance model, ensuring that the Integra remains a prominent player in the sport-compact arena.
Taking inspiration from the Honda Civic, the Type S incorporates several components from the popular Civic Type R hatchback, resulting in an incredibly powerful vehicle. It’s powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine that pumps out an impressive 320 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, which is a bump of 5 horsepower compared to the Civic. Acura attributes this increase to the Integra’s unique exhaust system, although it’s likely also intended to give drivers some bragging rights. Despite the power difference, the Acura’s curb weight is approximately 30 pounds higher than that of the Civic Type R, so we expect the two cars’ acceleration performance to be similar. The Type S comes with a six-speed manual transmission and a rev-matching function, and it also includes a limited-slip differential as standard equipment.
In addition to its powerful engine, the Integra Type S has all the necessary chassis upgrades. The vehicle has a wider front and rear track, and it features the same dual-axis front suspension setup as the Civic Type R, which is meant to reduce torque steer. Adaptive dampers are also available, and they adjust based on the selected drive mode, which includes Comfort, Sport, and Sport+. The brakes are upgraded with larger rotors front and rear, and the lightweight 19-inch wheels are wrapped in 265-series Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires.
As far as aesthetics go, the Integra Type S aims to appeal to a different fan base than the Civic. While it has the widened fenders and aggressive stance characteristic of a street racer, it lacks the Civic’s oversized rear wing. Its air intakes, front splitter, and rear diffuser are also more understated. The Integra’s active exhaust, however, promises to provide an even more exhilarating driving experience than the Civic’s, with plenty of pops and bangs in Sport+ mode. The vehicle will be available in seven colors, including blue, white, and the eye-catching Tiger Eye Pearl hue featured on the TLX and MDX Type S models.
Inside, the Type S boasts front seats with extra bolstering and a leather and suede upholstery combination that’s available in red, black, or white. Some features that are not available on the Civic Type R, such as a head-up display and a 16-speaker ELS audio system, are included in the Integra Type S. The front seats are heated, and the driver’s seat is power-adjustable with an adjustable lumbar support. The Type S is a four-seater and no longer has a center rear seating position. The 9.0-inch touchscreen display is equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities.
