2023 Toyota C-HR PHEV Interior and Exterior Design

The launch of the original Toyota C-HR was a momentous occasion for both Toyota and the European C-SUV segment. It brought a wave of innovation to a fiercely competitive market, defying conventional SUV styling with its striking and sharp-edged design reminiscent of contemporary sports coupes.

FOUR ELECTRIFIED POWERTRAINS

The all-new Toyota C-HR offers a comprehensive range of electrified powertrain options, showcasing Toyota’s commitment to providing affordable and practical vehicles that contribute to CO2 reduction and the transition to zero-emission mobility.

Customers can choose from four different powertrain options: 1.8 and 2.0-liter hybrid electric (HEV) versions, as well as a 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) model. The 2.0-liter HEV variant even offers the option of intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD-i).

These powertrains incorporate Toyota’s latest fifth-generation technology, which strikes a balance between increased power and low emissions. Key hybrid system components, such as the transaxle, power control unit (PCU), and high-voltage battery, have been redesigned to reduce size and mass, resulting in enhanced performance.

The 1.8-liter Hybrid powertrain, also featured in the new Corolla family, focuses on eco-performance while delivering significantly more power than the previous 1.8-liter hybrid electric Toyota C-HR. On the other hand, the 2.0-liter Hybrid offers even greater power output, delivering a rewarding hybrid driving experience without compromising efficiency.

The 2.0-liter Plug-in Hybrid is a best-in-class system, offering seamless all-electric EV driving for daily use and highly efficient hybrid electric performance for longer journeys. With true EV capability and a competitive range, this powertrain provides Regeneration Boost, which allows for a “one pedal” driving experience with three operating levels, making it easier to navigate city traffic. Additionally, the drive mode automatically adjusts to optimize energy efficiency, recognizing the best opportunities for energy regeneration based on the car’s navigation system. The Toyota C-HR PHEV also introduces a new geofencing function, automatically switching to EV operation when entering a low emission zone (LEZ) and optimizing battery usage throughout the entire trip when a navigation system is used and sufficient battery charge is available.

For enhanced traction and stability, the Toyota C-HR offers the AWD-i option on the 2.0-liter HEV version. This feature utilizes an additional compact, high-torque electric motor-generator on the rear axle, enabling operation over a wide range of vehicle speeds and road conditions.
